If a (Chinese) company gets too good at doing what American companies do, then force an embargo or force a sell. It was the #Meta/#Facebook with #Tiktok play, and now it's the #LLM play.
If #scraping copyrighted works for training is legal, so is #distillation.

If you squint, the invitation looks banal. Predictable theme ('Vegas Nightclub'), less predictable location ('Brooklyn'). But then comes the fine print. The dress code, just for 'the ladies', is more exacting: 'sexy party clothes'.
Yes, that’s right, Einhorn is openly telling women they better look hot or else to celebrate his hedge fund. You might think this is the invite for some frat party, instead of a multibillion-dollar money manager. You’d be wrong.

We had a hunch the #MeToo era that smacked Wall Street in the face nearly a decade ago had already been subsumed by cobwebs, forgotten to the winds of pre-Maga times. Maybe you remember this lovely quote that went viral from main FT last year, not long after Trump took office:

Sadly, there are many #capitalists who would LOVE to provide housing but are prevented from doing so. If you look at things like rent control in NYC, the government has literally stepped in and made it more expensive to provide housing than to leave it vacant. I've lived in places where contractors said the cost of permitting was more than the cost of materials for some construction projects.
Want more housing? The free market wants to provide it.

While I understand the motivation behind this -- the world actually has become more dangerous -- I think it is an extremely dangerous idea which will lead to catastrophic arms races and thus to war.
#Capitalists have been able to profiteer from war for a long time. The threat of war makes it easy to extract revenue from taxpayers. By securitising defence budgets, this proposal will incentivise arms companies to foment international conflict.
