[Thread] So, the book #LimitsToGrowth is back in the news after the projections were updated. I've been doing a lot of reading and thinking about this topic (the preface of the book 1177BC, The Year Civilization Collapsed being the impetus).

My conclusion is that only #Degrowth and implementation of a lot of #SolarPunkSunday ideas (repairing stuff, building community, rewilding) will help us adapt to the coming changes. That's why I started SPS -- to highlight events, ideas and to build connections.

Yes, I am known for "Doomposting," but like with most things, I try and find solutions as well. Yeah, all the #Fascist BS isn't helping -- in fact, it's a symptom of the desperation of the elites to hold onto their #Capitalistic, #Colonial, #hierarchical ways. And, well, we all know where that leads.

We may not be able to fix the climate or all the other things that are going wrong right away, but we can try to adapt, and make sure by doing so, we aren't making the problems worse for all the beings that live here on planet Earth.

I'll be posting some quotes in this thread -- some with commentary, some just by themselves. Do humans have all the answers? Not sure (I know I don't)... But sticking our collective heads in the sand is NOT an option!

The original impetus for resisting the federal mandate was the sacredness of the lands, ancestral ties and natural features which were dwelling places of Deities. The elder interviewees knew the future will not be the same way as they had lived and the same childhood experience. Then stories about decades of intense state of fear and which lead into the US’s late 1800s war policy of random killing, starvation and captivity. All the stories in this documentary program are messages for the future because, as these elders have predicted, the lands maybe empty of indigenous culture which once thrived for centuries."

That the #OpenAI #CTO is getting so much heat for saying some #creative #jobs maybe shouldn't exist is interesting. Some of those jobs are drudgery and borderline sweatshop jobs. They *shouldn't* exist.

It is telling of people's inability to imagine a better world where people are free to be #creative outside of the #capitalistic framework. Just because you #create #art for money right now doesn't mean it has to be that way. #Capitalism has a stranglehold on our collective consciousness.

One understands and lives in a somewhat #capitalistic system, but one can also refuse to accept the injustices that come with economic change.

Very sad to learn that #Mozilla Location Service (#MLS) is winding down.

Even more that this this is partially a result of #softwarepatents.

Will someone step up to take this over? Maybe the some organizations or companies supporting software #freedom could step up?

I think here of maybe organisations like: @NGIZero, @sovtechfund, @purism.

@milgrim The ONLY benefit that E-Bikes have (and it's really a #capitalistic reason) is to provide a means for people who who otherwise not ride a bicycle to ride a bicycle.

BUT, the primary reason that e-bikes exist is to make a profit for their manufacturers. As such, please buy a valve core removal tool and remove the air from the privileged e-bike riders tires, because air is a privilege.
