EVERY TIME I sign up to a new phone contract I have poor signal & slow speeds. So I ask you this: how many hours, days or weeks of your natural life span should you spend fighting telcos for the service you paid for? The process to get any satisfaction is akin to water boarding. Huge wait times on the phone,AI bots making you jump though hoops before you can speak with a human, having to restate your issue multiple times.

I need to relax and believe my boss when he says I'm not going anywhere. I don't think I can take the panic much more. We had a network hiccup that severed my communication (teams and such) and I immediately looked at my phone waiting for it to ring.
I used to work in IT and no that switching off accounts starting communication channels is timed to go with the trip to HR so people can't send any company-wide messages.
It wasn't just me and everything reset after about 5 minutes.

I just spent approximately 4 hours walking through a furniture store looking at the same three corner sofas.
Why did it take 4 hours? Because technically it were twenty or thirty sofas, but they all looked so incredibly similar in design and "colour", they might as well have been three sofas.
Type 1: The "corner sofa" isn't an actual corner sofa with a backrest at two sides but one regular sofa with a built in ottoman. Yes, you get a thing resembling an L but it really just looks like someone tried to pull out the extra thing for a sleeping couch and stopped halfway.
Type 2: The corner sofa has a backrest at two sides but one side is still a built in ottoman. But at least it understood the assignment.
Type 3: The corner sofa has an ottoman on two sides and one of them or both have a small backrest suitable for sitting. It is only having a U shape instead of being a plain rectangle because they are huge af. Don't bother looking for a small sofa table for that though, the ottomans won't offer enough space for one.
They also all have an absurdly low backrest, but fret not, some have an extra headrest - build in or as an extra for an extra price. Others have big cushions you can rotate 45° and hope they are sturdy enough to make up for it.
There wasn't a single sofa, corner or otherwise, or even armchair, with an interesting pattern. One couch had two "colours", one on the top, one on the bottom, but the "colours" available were all gray. I would have been perfectly fine with the bottom combo being black, white or grey if the other half would have been red, purple or at least blue. But nope. Wasted potential.
One group of small leather sofas stood out as they looked like taken from an old vampire movie. They were amazing but sadly also small, not even a Type 1. Still mad respect for trying. (Yes, one of them had a small ottoman extension, of course.)
There were more colours among all the grey, beige, cream, more grey and black furniture than I expected, but half of them were shades of brown or darker beiges. Thing is, when you look them up online in their store, you see these colours are actually the only actual colour available next to half a dozen greys. I guess even the people in the store know this stuff is boring af and do their best to make the place look a bit more diverse, especially in the area with the newer and more expensive stuff.
So, of course you can order online instead, via that store or elsewhere, but guess what: Online only stores don't bother hiring extra drivers etc. they use regular local delivery services and they won't carry it into your appartment, unless you can book it as an extra but that doesn't seem to be a common extra.
You can also buy second hand, but you don't get it delivered anywhere, unless it's a store offering this as an extra, but that can cost a lot. Usually you drive to Average Joe with a car and hope your back won't snap in the process of getting it downstairs, into the car and upstairs later again.
A sofa is a thing adding a lot of quality of life to your place and quite an investment, especially in this economy. I saw price tags ranging from 750 € to 6000 €, the 750 € things being leftovers on sale, furniture that was on display etc. It's a disgrace you are bound to choose between basically dozens of the same three sofas that don't look particularly interesting in any way and maybe one rare outlier once in a blue moon.
And yet here we are, rotting away in a bland world because blandness is cheaper to design and produce, and if everyone does it, people have to buy this uninspired crap because there's nothing else left.
I hate everything about this "trend".

So, it seems that the push toward efficiency is to benefit capitalists. Things used to take a long time to be made, and a long time to break (if at all). Make more things faster and cheaper means some CEO is making money, while the crappy products leave lasting pollution, and need to be replaced often, meaning CEO makes more money. That's #Crapitalism in a nutshell!

I hate that the most viable option to get parts for our bus outside of what we can upcycle is a corrupt unethical company amazon due to a lot of parts not being viable to pick up from a store with many parts not being available or cheap enough to get with our tight budget and it being on a basis of need it as soon as possible and not for convenience reasons but rather if we don't get these parts we are shit out of luck

Excerpt: "From the 1870s to the 1890s, the United States entered a period of rapid #industrialization. There was a shift from an agrarian economy to an industrial economy and many Americans began to move to urban areas. #MarkTwain called this period the Gilded Age and criticized the era as a time of #greed and #PoliticalCorruption.
Industrialization greatly increased the need for workers in the nation’s factories. The availability of factory jobs that required little or no skills was one of the reasons for a dramatic increase in immigration to the United States. Although working conditions in most factories were poor and unsafe, there was a steady stream of immigrant workers to fill the positions.
While there were millions of factory workers, the #wealthy #entrepreneurs who owned the factories represented a tiny fraction of Americans. The few wealthy controlled most of the wealth in the United States during this time.
During the Gilded Age, the economic disparities between the workers and big business owners grew exponentially. Workers continued to endure low wages and dangerous working conditions in order to make a living. #BigBusiness owners, however, enjoyed #lavish lifestyles.
he industrialization of the United States brought economic growth to the country like never before. The economy moved from agrarian to industrial; consumer goods were mass-produced and readily available. However, manufacturing was not the only industry that experienced growth. The railroad industry grew as the need to transport people and goods increased.
The rapid growth of the manufacturing industry created a great need for unskilled workers. This demand caused migration as farm workers moved from rural areas of the United States to find jobs in America’s rapidly growing cities. The increase in jobs was also a draw for people in foreign countries. Many people immigrated to the United States in search of work and the opportunity to live the American dream.
While industrialization led to an increase in jobs, it also led to poor working conditions for this new industrial labor force. Workers were forced to work in dangerous conditions surrounded by heavy machinery. Unskilled laborers required little training and completed routine tasks. They also worked long hours and were paid low wages.
Big business owners benefitted tremendously from the economic changes in the United States. Some historians have said that these entrepreneurs were robber barons because they got rich through ruthless means. Others have called them captains of industry because they were greatly responsible for increasing productivity, expanding markets, providing jobs, and increasing the nation’s wealth."

So, it seems that technology isn't the problem. It's #HumanGreed! The #IndustrialAge happened not to make life easier for people (though it did in some ways), it was to make money selling shit to make life easier for people (without regard of the consequences -- like PFAS and plastics), and produce cheap shit to profit some fat-cat CEOs and investors. I mean technology is just using tools -- even crows know how to do that! But who is profiting from selling the *tools* that we are told will make our lives easier, faster, more convenient? We know who. People like #NikolaTesla are out there -- willing to create tools to benefit humankind and not destroy the planet. But unfortunately, there are far more #Edisons out there!
