  1. I quite like Nick Turpin’s definition as ‘candid public photography’ #canpubphoto. Candid means people, public means what it says, rather than ‘on a street’.

  2. Our streets are filled with moments of humanity, we just need to unglue our eyes from our phones and look around.

  3. Our lives are filled with moments of hilarity, stupidity, absurdity, and frustration. I like to be there to make photographs of life, as it happens.

I made this photograph in an area of Bristol known as The Bear Pit. It was a haven of self expression through graffiti that changed weekly, but due in part to anti-social behaviour was sterilised back to being an underpass through a roundabout.

  4. I made this photo while walking through the City of London in May this year. After two years of pandemic, and all restrictions recently lifted, was this a reminder of the past or a portent of what was soon to come?

  5. I rarely make photos when I am on holiday with Emma, I find it hard to concentrate on what is happening around me. But London is so packed with people, packed with life and energy it is hard not to make photos.

These are from the only sunny day of our long weekend break last week.

  6. I made this on my visit to Wells last Sunday. It was, as are most of my better photos, seen while walking back to the car.

I love a day of harsh light and dark shadows.

  9. CW: Street Photography - Slightly provocative Santa

    Merry Christmas you filthy animal.

I made this photo in 2018 while Emma was shopping in Blade Rubber Stamps, near the British Museum. Suddenly the road was filled with Santas, who had obviously had a little too much of the brandy and mince pies.

  10. "May the force be with you"

I made this photo while following a protest through the streets of Bristol. My eye was caught by the way this officer held his arms behind his back, with tattoos on show. It was only when reviewing the photos later that I spotted what was depicted. Perhaps I should call this one, "the long arm of the law".

  11. As we head towards the winter solstice, the light that flows through the city is harsh and low. It sometimes feels that when the clouds part, every hour is golden.

  12. You better watch out
    You better not cry

I made this photo in December 2016 on Anchor Road behind @wshed. I feel there is tension and unease from these two children running to or possibly from something while the person in the background looks befuddled or confused.

He sees you when you're sleeping
    He knows when you're awake
He knows when you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake

  13. How's your day going?

I made this photo in April this year. It was complete chance that this person was walking along with their happy yellow tote bag.
