  1. A glance at our pond this afternoon and I caught sight of an unusual white bird. Grabbing my binoculars and then camera, I discovered it's a young Bonaparte's Gull. I've never seen one of these on our pond and this little one was by itself -- like many of our transient birds, maybe taking a rest before continuing its journey and joining others.
