  1. It’s worth noting that the #fairplayer and #mirlo integration isn’t a one-off thing between the two platforms - it’s the first large-scale test of the Canimus protocol! It’s been pretty successful and is what has informed the next revision of the protocol, which is now called Chorus. Want to help guide its future? Join in at github.com/PlaidWeb/Chorus

  2. Ok I've finally bit the bullet and merged the Chorus draft spec into the main #Canimus branch, and also renamed the repo accordingly. github.com/PlaidWeb/Chorus is the new source of truth for the interop spec!

Thanks to everyone who gave detailed feedback, especially @txels, @curiousicae, and LLK from @mirlo (who I don't think is on Mastodon individually)

  3. Is the Open #subsonic API already doing what I was hoping to see out of #canimus / #chorus?

a protocol to enable a decentralized Spotify?

  4. For folks who have been interested in #Canimus and #FederatedStreaming, I'm working on a revised specification that cleans up a lot of the problems that emerged during its development. It's also probably changing names, the current best candidate being "Chorus." (The repo name will change after the draft is finalized.)

Check out the WIP rewrite at github.com/PlaidWeb/Canimus/tr and please comment on it at github.com/PlaidWeb/Canimus/pu

  5. I think the future is decentralized Spotify via #canimus and #PublicPatron but right now, we should probably try to move everybody (at least those on #Bandcamp) to #mirlo. And help them be the most awesome, including providing musicians fedi accounts.

  6. some streams include data that allows the app to know what songs were played. so #TuneFM keeps track of what songs were played, providing a link to Spotify.

but imagine if instead the app also played songs directly from a musician's site via #canimus. if the app was not only a radio but a decentralized version of Spotify with DJs helping you build your music library?

    how it should be.

  7. The best resource I know of for building our open #InternetRadio future. Haven't found an Android app I love yet though. I imagine that we eventually have apps that are decentralized radio players but can also play music on-demand using #canimus, letting us save a song played on the radio stream for playback later directly from the musician's website.

does anyone know if the person behind this site is on the fedi somewhere?

there's a new effort to build a decentralized Spotify. the music lives on the musician's site but could be played in any app. like a podcast.
