It was clear then that journalistic principles and reader interest were irrelevant, only his political goals.

If you are looking for an incentive to curb your shopping, consider watching “Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy” on Netflix. Pretty unsettling documentary about Amazon’s unethical practices including shutting down employee dissent. Also exposes where donated clothing winds up most of the time (spoiler alert: not in thrift shops) as well as the corruption in the recycling industry.

I wasn’t crazy about the production, but the content was very eye-opening.

I did this a few years ago. Never looked back.

Sometimes it’s a little harder to find that obscure item, and maybe it won’t arrive tomorrow, but it feels better to buy from a company that’s less evil (pretty much anywhere else).

Since cancelling my amazon prime account in Jan 2024... I have still managed to spend almost £750 with them.

However, that includes some larger items, like nearly £300 on a vacuum cleaner, £150 on a replacement phone for my mum. Plus a lot of DIY related stuff. Things that are not regular purchases. If I remove those it's only £161

Compare that to 2023, when (after removing DIY items and so forth) it was more like £2400

It's not hard to stop using them, more should.

Stop setting yourself up for frustration and disappointment. Cancel your #Amazon account and pretend it doesn’t exist. Might take a little longer to find that item and to get it delivered, but it’s more likely to be what you want. Don’t get sucked in by the “deals” .. they’re not.

I canceled my #Amazon account a few years ago, and haven’t looked back. Yeah, it’s a little harder to find that thing, and I may be paying more (but maybe not), but my money is mostly going directly to the producers of the products, or at least I’m spreading the wealth around more evenly.

I wish people could just try buying things elsewhere (and less often). You do have a choice.
