For some, #mahjong 🀄 is a solitaire game of removing pairs from a mountain of tiles... but it is a game similar to #Rummy or #Canasta or #Continental: make triplets and runs 1 1 1 4 4 4 7 8 9 .. there are variations in the rules, the simplest is in the #Philippines, the most common are in #HongKong and #Japan 🇵🇭 🇭🇰 🇯🇵
I have several sets of tiles, the ones in the photos have Western numbers, especially to help with the suit of the "character" ones that use Chinese numbers ⼀⼆㆔㆕伍六七⼋九 #pinoy

Bill and the gang have been playing hundreds of online games of #Canasta today, and with each game completed and each bug found I get more and more confident that the system works. Hopefully multiplayer Canasta will release later this week!

Worse, this is a case of #YakShaving, I'm trying to fix an issue in the #Canasta #MediaWiki #CLI because I want to spin up an instance of #MediaWiki with #CirrusSearch quickly so I can edit the #UI for the #search interface. 😭 😂

I have a M.Sc. in #maths and I use it very successfully at #bridge, #canasta, and #Monopoly. For some reason, I have never managed to become ANY good at #chess. But I have lots of hubris, I mean – pride, so I re-downloaded an app I bought 15 or so years ago and… uh… I seem to have forgotten the rules completely 😬 even the "are you sure you have a brain cell?" level got me stuck. After three moves.

Becoming a chess master might take a while…
