Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving earlier because winter won't wait.
Early settlers faced a hard truth:
Harvest had to finish before the 1st snow. Not optional. Survival.By October, the work was done. Time to gather & give thanks before the deep freeze.
Why we celebrate differently:
- Geography decides everything
- Harvest completed before winter comes
- Gratitude rooted in necessity, not tradition
- Early settlers understood timing is survivalAmericans celebrate in November:
- Founded on Pilgrims' 1621 gathering
- Tradition stuck even though the timing doesn't match reality
- Different land, different seasons, different storiesBut here's what stays the same:
- Pausing to acknowledge what kept you alive through the year
- People who showed up
- Work that paid off
- Grief that taught you
- Loss that made space for what's next
- Connection that kept you aliveThis weekend I'm sitting with all of it: The survival. The community. The time that helped me heal.

Today I have cooked:

2. Matbucha
3. Cranberry Sauce
4. Bread Cubes
5. Turkey BrothTomorrow I'll make:
- Stuffing
- Mac and CheeseThen Monday
- Brussels Sprouts
- Asparagus
- A Whole Turkey(I already have the mashed potato in the fridge)
An American friend recommended that this would be a good approach- make Thanksgiving Dinner on Canadian Thanksgiving (Monday) and then defrost for American Thanksgiving.
