Saw someone go by in my notifications that said they specialized in synchrotron light/radiation. Cool stuff.
Coincidentally I'm just down the road (by prairie standards) from the Canadian Light Source, Canada's national synchrotron light source. I once did some work there (just computer/network stuff, not advanced physics 😄 ) twenty-odd years ago, before it opened and I got to go through it. The big hall is nothing compared to CERN or Fermilab or whatever, but it's the size of a Canadian football field, and is a pretty cool pile of tech and engineering feats.
The CLS has a 2.9 GeV storage ring. You don't want to be around that too closely when it's running.
Just random memories triggered by seeing "synchrotron". Nothing to see here, move along.
