Ripples of Companionship
I’ve seen plenty of Canadian geese (Branta canadensis) over the years, but it’s been a while. I only got into birdwatching and photography about three years ago, so these two I spotted in Beaufort, South Carolina are the first I’ve ever captured through the lens.

On our pre brunch walk this morning, we came across these geese and huddled goslings, with the sentry goose on the opposite side of the bike path.
When the sentry started to walk over to tell us the back off I noticed the fishing line entangling its legs, hobbling it.
I reached out to a friend who volunteers with Safe Wings Ottawa and she was eventually able to connect me with an available goose wrangler.
The recording at Safe Wings is a bit sad as they are overstretched, but these good folk still have a network of people willing to take time to assist Ottawa feathered friends in need.
The goose has since been helped and I once again admire the spirit and helpfulness of some awesome humans.
I am still very angry about fishing line being left in the river to cause trouble with wildlife.
