  1. SAVING CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY RADIO HISTORY 🎙

At the National Campus & Community Radio Association conference in June, Internet Archive’s Jennifer Waits, Assistant Curator for the college radio collection in the Digital Library of Amateur Radio & Communications (DLARC), shared her work.

  3. @ItsTrainingCatsAndDogs @PacificNic
I had a weekly radio show for over 12 years on the local #campusRadio station. I was on Thursdays at 7-9pm. One night I got a call from a guy:

"Were you the DJ on at this time about 3 weeks ago?"

    "Uhhhh, yes?"

"Do you remember playing a band - which you introduced by saying 'if you haven't heard of ___ you must be living in a cave'?"

    "Hmmm..."

"Because I found that to be incredibly insulting."

    "Uhhh... Wait. What?!"

It didn't seem to be a prank. It was a man legitimately insensed that someone would use that turn of phrase. We talked about it for about 10 minutes. He stewed on it for weeks!

20 years later, I still think about that guy.

  4. @cs Canada has different rules for #LPFM #CommunityRadio and #CampusRadio. Starting in 1974 we got Canada's first Community Radio FM station, CKWR, right here in @waterlooregion, followed by Campus Radio FM: CKCU at Carleton Uni in 1975, then CFMU at #McMaster Uni in 1977, then CKMS at #Waterloo Uni in 1978. All were initially restricted to 50W or 100W, but are now 250W to 1000W. Waterloo is particularly rich in Community Radio, there's also CJIQ at #ConestogaCollege, and #MidtownRadio online.
