  1. I feel like Camera Control on the iPhone 16 would be more useful if…

    1. Single press launched camera
    2. Quick double press launched video…

  2. You can also light press to get the camera control like zoom.

Tap twice to get control like zoom, etc.

And developers can take advantage of it via API.

  3. To take photo, open camera by holding the flush Camera control button, and to take a photo, just tap on the camera control.

Press and hold to start filming video.

It's powered by a taptic engine to get the feeling of actual click of button.

  4. Speaking of camera, the Camera Control brings more control to taking photos.

It's a flush button, that is touch sensative, and made with Sapphire glass (like TouchID on iPads with TouchIDs)

To use, just lide your finger across the button.

  6. I tried using the #CameraControl button (YES I SAID BUTTON) on the #iPhone16ProMax all day yesterday. After getting frustrated so many times, I only ended up using it for opening the camera, then touching the screen for everything else.

Awesome if it works for you 👍! For me however, the controls are just too janky to use. As some have said, cool idea but kinda a hot mess right now. Maybe it should have just been another action button? Not sure, but I do wish that they would offer a toggle to turn off the 1/2 press functions until they make it better.

  7. Somebody @atpfm please tell @siracusa that you can zoom in iPhone’s camera with just one thumb, without the “Pinch to zoom” gesture.

You simply swipe left or right from the 0.5x/1x “button” and it launches that “Zooming” mode.

  8. Catching up on the waveform podcast this morning and it seems I’m not alone on this.

I do love the massive amount of control the new camera app offers. At least this doesn’t require accessing it through the camera control button.

  9. I’m not sold on the iPhone 16 Camera Control. Maybe Apple will improve the functionality, but I find it difficult to use beyond opening the camera and snapping a picture.

Using the semi-press functionality, though, is bad. Especially attempting any of the swiping activity. It’s super frustrating to use.

Any other iPhone 16 users find the same as me?

  10. Initial thoughts on #iphone #cameracontrol:

    - half press to invoke the adjustments drop-down is way too twitchy out of the box, even in a case (which one might, wrongly, assume reduces the sensitivity, at least in the case of the official Apple cases with their window thingy) but you can increase the amount of force required to activate the drop-down adjustments uhh… island(?), or set it to just function as a camera launcher and shutter button in Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control

  11. Lots of thoughts on the new #iPhone #CameraControl. Formulating a lot of hypotheses right now, looking forward to testing them starting on Friday.

It’ll probably be my next video.
