@legallaurak @robotdeathsquad power just went out here in #CamasWA. Running #greenhouse (propane igniter and fan) and house pellet stove on generator. Rigged up internet and other small stuff on battery power (which can be recharged on solar power). Last Saturday power was out as well for ~13 hours. Still need to find a good solution for the 220v well pump.

There’s some nice small generators to be had for essentials. Make sure you get an “inverter” generator to cleanly power electronics.

At 480ft elevation here in #CamasWA we got another 0.75” / 2cm of #snow overnight. Some rain this morning along with big snowflakes. Temperature is 2°C now, snow is melting and sliding down our metal roof, crashing loudly on the roof below.
Utility power went out for a very short time- the furnace blower revved down and electronics turned off. Power came back almost immediately and I quickly ground beans for another #coffee. #WAwx #WA #PNW

Today we made Big Leaf Maple Syrup!! 2nd try. We started out with 7.5 gallons (28.4 l) of sap and ended up with about 20 fl oz (0.6 l) of delicious syrup. The sap was collected over the last 5 days, from 5 trees. #BigLeafMapleSyrup #PNW #WA #CamasWA

We put our trees to work- we tapped 6 big leaf maple trees!! Perfect time for it: froze last night and sunny today. It was incredible to see the sap flowing out immediately- we already had supplies and tried a variety of taps. Some trees yielded 2 cups in a few hours. #pnw #wa #bigleafmaplesyrup #camaswa

#camaswa #pnw #winterstorm is easing up a bit. Winds died down mostly, but this morning’s rain still froze. Temps are a little above freezing now.

Greenhouse update: we installed the hard plastic end walls and last Saturday we managed to put the double layer of 6mm poly over the top! Just in time for the freezing weather and high winds. We installed a blower that puts air in between the layers of poly and inflates it a bit. The 60mph wind gusts did not hurt anything. Last night the hail and freezing rain put a hard 1/4” shell of ice over everything. #camaswa #greenhouse #farming #pnw #icestorm
