Heading to a real-life event now. 🚗

I really enjoyed #CallNorthside777. It is one of the best newspaper movies of the era. #TCMParty #NoirAlley

I want one of these ignorant parole board guys to light a ciggy in the darkroom.
-
Love the use of contemporary, cutting edge technology here.
I would think that you could identify that front page just from the outline of pictures used on it.
-
OMG this comes down to the 1948 equivalent of "ENHANCE!"
-
Like I said last night: Kasia Orzazewski’s performance in this is phenomenal and heartbreaking
#TCMParty #NoirAlley #CallNorthside777 #KasiaOrzazewski -
Ah, are we about to see an instance of the "one good apple" theory? One cop with a conscience?

🎞️ It's a Hail Mary to make the Deadline! 🕜

Entering that narrow, dark alley from the sunny street where children are playing is pure noir. shoot that in my veins.
-
If this turns into a physical fight my $$’s on Wanda Skutnik
#TCMParty #NoirAlley #CallNorthside777 -
I think it's very interesting the way this is directed, where Skutnik/Wiskovich has no fear of McNeal, this man, looming over her bed. If I were her, I'd be terrified.
Then it's revealed, an armed man, Boris, is in the other room.
And that's a harsh lede
-
"she hadn't oughta thrown them bricks at me" is pure neighborhood drama
-
OK, these Polish bars and clubs are reminding me of the equivalents in Corona NY: the Greek illegal gambling den on 99th Street, the HIbernian Society on 103rd Street. You could go weeks without hearing English, and when you did, it'd be a creole.
-
This is 100% Stewart's sweet spot as an actor, the moral crusader. The karen-who-shaves asking to see the manager.
-
"This is the best shit sandwich you will ever eat" is the moral equivalent. #ACAB
-
The sad thing about repeatedly characterizing the Chicago cops as one of the "finest police departments in the United States" is that it is still a relative statement, regardless of its truth. #ACAB
-
I'm surprised that sergeant didn't rough him up and take the camera.
-
That, children, is what a smartphone camera looked like in 1948.
-
oh damn McNeal/Stewart getting switchy with the switchboard.
-
20 years after this movie is released, that "best police department in the country" will show the world what that really means. #TheWholeWorldIsWatching

Oh, damn, interpreting the response to "no" to "are you married" as a "well, he *thinks* he's married because he's Catholic", when it shows the uselessness of the test is just too much.
Our Science Is Infallibly Correct.
-
I assume after the polygraph test they’ll have his humors measured and consult a phrenologist
#TCMParty #NoirAlley #CallNorthside777 -
oh lie detection pseudoscience goes back almost as long as eugenics and phrenology.
-
🎞️ "I'm going to get this out of my system if I never write another line."
- #JimmyStewart on the case to the end now.
-
Regardless of all my criticism of it, this is a well-made, engrossing film. #CallNorthside777 #NoirAlley #TCMParty
-
Ok, Warden, if you think this guy didn't do it, why haven't you asked the governor for a pardon for this guy, or to have his sentence commuted so he could lobby for a pardon himself? Why do we let authority figures off the hook in this movie? #CallNorthside777 #NoirAlley #TCMParty
-
You can see a shade of the kind of narrative dialectic used in those movies in McNeal/Stewart's conversations with his editor and wife, but it doesn't work as well because the editor is an authority figure and his wife isn't doing the work. You need a peer. #CallNorthside777 #NoirAlley #TCMParty

🎞️ The interview to end the series on the floor scrubbing mom turns out the be even worse for the cynical reporter who wants out.
Then the inmate tells him to stop. What's next?
