🌍 Are you a researcher based at an African institution, hold a completed doctoral degree and have at least eight years of postdoctoral experience? Are you working in the Humanities or Social Sciences with a focus on Sustainable Governance?

🔎 Then you might be a candidate for our Sustainable Governance Senior Fellowship Programme for Researchers from Africa. The fellowship is open to scholars of any nationality based in an African institution.

📑 The programme offers a six-month fellowship at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) between 1 September 2027 and 31 August 2028. Fellows become part of the University of Freiburg’s international academic community and gain time, resources and opportunities to advance their research.

Key requirements:
🔹 Research project in the humanities or social sciences with a focus on sustainable governance
🔹 Completed doctoral degree and at least eight years of postdoctoral experience
🔹 At least five peer-reviewed publications since 1 January 2017
🔹 At least six months of research or study experience abroad
🔹 Master’s or PhD degree obtained in an African country
🔹 Letter of cooperation from a professor at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg

FRIAS offers the time, space and supportive environment to reflect on these encounters and carry new ideas forward.

The FRIAS Fellowship Programmes 2027/28 once again give researchers the opportunity to advance their own research project at @unifreiburg while joining the international and interdisciplinary FRIAS community.
