  2. Wheels:

A set of wooden wagon wheels, still attached to their axel, rest among the rotting peices of the cart they used to serve.

  3. Wagon No More:

  4. Silent Bells:

The Mission San Antonio de Padua Bell has the distinction of being the first Mission Bell to be cast in the California Territory.

Unfortunately, either due to an imperfect casting or through bad luck, the bell cracked, and now sits in silence near the Mission Chapel.

  5. Mission San Antonio de Padua.

Probably my favorite of the California Missions. While not really deliberate, It's very out-of-the-way location and its lack of funding means that more than any of the others, spending an afternoon here feels like walking back in time.

  6. A brief stop at Mission San Antonio de Padua in Jolon — California’s second mission — during my trip up to Escondido Campground in our latest Off The Beaten Track YouTube. Link to video in bio.

I’m also wearing one of our fabulous t-shirts, not that you can really tell. Merch store also linked in bio. :)

  7. "When you lose 90% of your population in 100 years that's like losing a million libraries full of information. So I realized that what I needed to do was use the fragments I had to tell the stories they could tell and let the gaps speak as well."
