It’s #superbowl day! On this Superb Owl day, like like to share this drawing of a Burrowing Owl. The Burrowing Owl is one of the many endangered species that is threatened by the proposed development of California Forever. California Forever is a billionaire real estate flip on a massive scale. Flannery associates, the business front entity of the billionaires, promises jobs and housing, but just a tiny bit of digging into their publicly published proposal will show you that their definition of “jobs” and “housing” are jokes. For example, every techie that moves to the new city who already has a job counts as one of those “new jobs.” And the “housing?” Mostly 1,000,000 homes that the existing local residents could never afford. But did we ever expect billionaires to tell the truth?

California Forever CEO, Jan #Sramek's longtime fascination with Peter #Thiel is interesting
because Thiel is a major figure in the #NetworkState movement.Thiel
– along with #CaliforniaForever investor Marc #Andreessen
– is an investor in Pronomos Capital,
a company funding the construction of new tech-themed cities worldwide.Balaji #Srinivasan, a man with very bizarre ideas who is the main evangelist of the Network State,
advises #PronomosCapital.Thiel also funded the #SeasteadingInstitute,
which was an early version of the Network State idea.It sought to create sovereign territories that would float out in the ocean.
The Seasteading Institute has a direct connection to Solano County.
In 2009, it funded the beginning of #Ephemerisle, a weeklong floating art party/group living/Burning Man-style experiment in the Sacramento Delta.
California Forever denies any connection to the Network State.
So I'm sure it's just a coincidence that Sramek sees Thiel as his main hero and, like Thiel,
Sramek is also trying to create new tech-governed cities.And it's another coincidence that Andreessen and Thiel are funding a company to invest in these cities around the world.
And it's yet another coincidence that Srinivasan
– the main Network State guy

For the reporters, editors and headline writers who persist in calling California Forever a "utopian" project, bear in mind what one of the principals, Mike Moritz, wrote to his billionaire pals when he was shopping the idea around.
Per The New York Times: "The financial gains could be huge, Mr. Moritz said in the 2017 pitch. He estimated the return could be many times the initial investment just from the rezoning, and far more if and when they started building.
"'If the plans materialize anywhere close to what is being contemplated, this should be a spectacular investment,' Mr. Moritz wrote."
No surprise there, really. You don't get these folks to put up $800 million without the promise of a big return somewhere down the road.
Bearing that in mind, be prepared for an insanely expensive local election campaign if this "utopia" goes to the Solano County ballot.
