I took #London-#Inverness #CaledonianSleeper 3 years ago.

Compared to ÖBB #nightjet in #Germany, I had much better sleep (and I'm not an easy sleeper...) : the track is noisier (tack-a-tack) but this actually is sufficiently monotonous to help rather than prevent sleep, and we had much fewer stop-and-goes (in Germany, train stops, reverses, re-reverses in fully lighted railway complexes, which woke me up a couple of times)

So, nach 24h #Zugreise sind wir aus #Schottland wieder zurück. Diesmal hat es etwas geholpert. Der #CaledonianSleeper hatte schlussendlich 2,5h Verspätung (wir sind eher aus- und auf einen anderen Zug umgestiegen), der #Eurostar ist mit technischem Defekt kurz liegen geblieben bevor er nach 'Sichtprüfung' des Lokführenden weiterfahren konnte (+55). Daher haben wir einen #TGV verpasst und sind mit nem #ICE von Paris nach Straßburg gefahren. Schlussendlich aber wie geplant in #Konstanz angekommen.

Nächste Woche geht es mit dem Zug in die schottischen Highlands. Heute haben wir ca. drei Stunden damit zugebracht, Apps zu installieren (UK ETA, Interrail, Eurostar), eine Einreisegenehmigung zu beantragen, Pässe einzurichten, Tickets zu aktivieren, Nahverkehrsverbindungen rauszusuchen und alles als PDF mobil dabei zu haben.
Das darf durchaus noch einfacher werden.

Scottish people, in the Fort William area in particular: any recommendations for taxi/tour companies that could take me from Fort William to Glenfinnan (Monument & exhibition + a view on the Viaduct) and back on 10/10/2026? The only (well, that’s what he claims) electric taxi in the area is already booked that day…
Plenty of non-e options, but instead of emailing—or the horror, calling—them all, I’d rather follow up on some personal recommendations.
