‘Being local is at the heart of everything we do so it made sense for us to say to the world that our business is #Scottish. We were keen that our brand had a fresh modern feel and we think having a .scot web address really helps us stand out from the crowd.’ #TransformationTuesday #dotScot

Drop-in sessions to provide advice and support to people affected by Cairngorms wildfire - Highland Council
"Drop-in sessions will take place in Aviemore and Nethy Bridge next week to provide information, advice and support to residents and businesses affected by the wildfire in the Cairngorms National Park." -
Field work seems to be over for now in our #BEN_EAF outgoing mobility project in the #Cairngorms, #Scotland.
We did sample soil for #eDNA #metabarcoding and collected our pitfall traps.
It was a great and quite warm weather! 😎
Next: do some invertebrate identification in the labs of the #JamesHuttonInstitute .

Here some good news for the #MEB network (microclimate ecology & biogeography, former #SoilTemp).
New #TOMST soil temperature and soil humidity loggers are now installed in alpine habitats of the #ScottishHighlands, in the #Cairngorms National Park. 🌡️#BEN_EAF #SoilTemperature #Microclimate #Biogeography #JamesHuttonInstitute #AlpSoil_Lab #SoilHumidity

While samplings of #alpine beasties in the #Cairngorms #NationalPark for my #BEN_EAF project at the #JamesHuttonInstitute are still in the preparation, here some impressions of the critters I've found while hiking.
As temperatures go up, so more activity is expected, right?

A sunny day sandwiched between two stormy days, so a quick couple of hours morning walk with Moray up Craigellachie, the Nature Reserve and hill behind Aviemore. A mixture of summer and autumn - heather and harebell still flowering, the bracken and rowan beries are well into autumn, but everything else is also beginning to turn now.

Hanging around the Cairngorms this morning, look who we found hanging about too:

2 day trek with overnight camp with Moray this past weekend.
#Newtonmore to #Aviemore over the high ground of the #Monadhliath, #Cairngorms National Park, #Scotland. Still hot and sunny at times, so lots of stops for rests and rehydration.
Lots of ups and downs, lots of peat bog and groughs, but some easy walking on great short vegetation. -
Another of our favourite local walks with Moray today. Through Craigellachie (the National Nature Reserve), up to Craigellachie (the hill), then down to the Burma Road and back via the old old A9 Perth to Inverness road.

A black and white world for today's #StandingStoneSunday.
Aviemore 'Clava' cairn; the remains of a kerbed cairn (which likely had a central mound and chamber), surrounded by a free-standing stone circle. It's in a neat little suburban setting now, with glimpses of the Cairngorm mountains beyond.
This visit March 2011.

"In Scandinavia, rowans growing out of some inaccessible cleft in a rock, or crevices in a tree possessed an even more powerful magic. Such trees were known as ‘flying rowan’"
#Rowan magic in the #Cairngorms? Inset is the #ScotsPine 'host'.

And if you don't photograph this tree, have you actually done the Lairig Ghru? 🤔
