The woods are full of fungi. Many Amanita muscaria. #fungi #mushrooms #cairngorms #nature

Field work seems to be over for now in our #BEN_EAF outgoing mobility project in the #Cairngorms, #Scotland.
We did sample soil for #eDNA #metabarcoding and collected our pitfall traps.
It was a great and quite warm weather! 😎
Next: do some invertebrate identification in the labs of the #JamesHuttonInstitute .

While samplings of #alpine beasties in the #Cairngorms #NationalPark for my #BEN_EAF project at the #JamesHuttonInstitute are still in the preparation, here some impressions of the critters I've found while hiking.
As temperatures go up, so more activity is expected, right?

Preparations for my #BEN_EAF project as visiting scientist at the #JamesHuttonInstitute are still ongoing, but I could hike in the Scottish #Highlands already!
Looking forward to taking #alpine #SoilFauna samples (cores and pitfall traps) and to compare these with #eDNA samplings. 🕷️🧬

Love going #MushroomPicking with @dana
They are good at the identification side of things, but sometimes I have to do the scrambling to reach them, as in the case of this penny bun...
Taken on our tenth anniversary getaway in the #Cairngorms, #Scotland.

And if you don't photograph this tree, have you actually done the Lairig Ghru? 🤔

Looking south across the Lairig Ghru from Braeriach, over Cairn Toul, towards Ben MacDui and Carn a'Mhaim on an immaculate cold and clear winter's day. The sort of day when being on the hill is almost spiritual. Being local allows the opportunity to make the most of #DaysLikeThese .
