  6. Red Grouse.

    I think the call from these iconic birds is one of the most distinctive of all UK birds, and carries far across the moors on a still day.

    This male was pottering round with his partner, feeding on heather, but as there was a possible rival nearby, he'd call every so often.

    The moors were covered with a thick frost, and while it was very cold, it was fantastic to be there.
