Carreg y Big near Llynau Cregennan, between Cader Idris and the Afon Mawddach for today's #StandingStoneSunday
This area is rich with stones, cairns and hillforts, as well as being an incredibly beautiful landscape.
This visit March 2012. Portrait, may need a click.

"Through the door of the birds where the breeze breaks..."
Following in the footsteps of Will Stanton and Bran Davies, high up above the Dysynni valley on Craig yr Aderyn (Birds' Rock), looking towards Cader Idris and the mountain fastnesses of Y Brenin Llwyd. A place that I have known since I was at primary school, but have never been to before except in my imagination.

A quick bit of #Defaidodon action for you this evening. A couple of sheep give scale to Big Scenery.
Tyrrau Mawr and Craig-y-Llyn, two of the satellite peaks of Cader Idris, both sporting fine Bronze Age cairns, rising above Llyn Cyri. From a wonderful walk from Abermaw (Barmouth) this time last year.

Absolutely stunning day on Cadair Idris today. The last two times I've come partway up in November rain, gales and zero visibility. Today was an amazing contrast, with spectacular views of Yr Wyddfa and the Eryri ranges, as well as the coast at Abermaw, Pumlumon and Shropshire.
Here's a view of Llyn Cau that most people don't see, with Craig Cwm Amarch rising sheer above. Downhill from the lake an Iron Age treasure hoard was found.

Is there anything more perfect than a place where soaring mountains and golden shore meet?
Until next time, diolch yn fawr Abermaw.

A lovely afternoon stroll up to Cerrig Arthur stone circle, after yesterday's Aran ridge epic.
The circle is in the foothills of Y Rhinogydd, and has great views of Diffwys and Y Garn, the southernmost peaks in the range. It also looks south across the beautiful Mawddach estuary towards the soaring buttresses of Cader Idris. It stands beside an important route up to one of the bwlchs (passes) over the Rhinogydd ridge into Ardudwy.

Not the easiest of conditions for my last day on the #hills of #NorthWales today. 40mph gusts and drizzly rain made hard work of an ascent of Gau Graig along its rugged northeastern ridge. #Dolgellau appeared to be getting better weather far below. I'm obviously getting old as I had the sense to abandon hopes of Mynydd Moel and Penygadair.
