    ☄️ C/2026 A1 (MAPS) is currently grazing the Sun at its top speed: 557 km/s!
    (That’s 346 mi/s or 1.25 MILLION miles per hour = NY to LA in just 7 seconds)

    Tomorrow, we will see if the nucleus survived the hell ride.

    C/2026 A1 (MAPS) is just 22 hours from perihelion. The animation from SOHO's Large Angle Spectrometric Coronagraph (LASCO C3) shows the comet steadily approaching the Sun.

    The current speed is 133 km/s and increasing.

    #astronomie la #comete #C2026A1 #MAPS approche du soleil et va frôler sa surface tout début avril 2026. Si elle survit à ce raze-mote de la mort (quelques millions de km seulement) nous aurons verrons une comète très spectaculaire au coucher du soleil, mais elle peut aussi très bien se disloquer comme la comète ISON en 2013. La commission des comètes à mis en ligne le webinaire de ce week-end sur le sujet :
