@kelseashanty @litstudies Strap yourself in for one of the perhaps best early novels written about the French Invasion of Fishguard in 1797. Not quite Napoleonic, but co-temporary.

Inspired by the sense of possibility & community here & also bc I’m feeling some Pennsylvania pride today, I’ll share a more personal form of #introduction. This is my great grandfather, Martin, born in 1900. He spent his entire career running a linotype for the local newspaper, The Morning Call, in Allentown, PA. This photo is from his retirement in 1977, the year I was born. As a child I never once asked him about linotype machines, but he was playful & funny & kind & I like to think he’s one source of my love of bringing #mediahistory together with #C19Lit #LatinxStudies #litstudies #dh #USLDH

I just moved from mastodon.cloud to hcommons.social, so I’ll try another #introduction. I am an Assoc. Prof. of English/Latinx Studies @ Pace U in NYC. I write and teach about #LatinxStudies #litstudies #mediastudies #C19Lit #journalismhistory #Periodicals #dh #USLDH. My research centers on #c19 U.S-based Spanish-language print culture and the convergence of #lit and #MediaChange. My projects include the #digitalmapping site C19LatinoNYC.org and a book in progress called Electrifying News: A Hemispheric History of the Present in 19th-Century Print Culture.
