On the road between Çavuşin and Zelve🇹🇷, we stop at Paşabağ, also called "Monks Valley". Here the landscape displays the amazing multi-headed mushroom rock formations, some 15-20m high into which monks carved cells in the #Byzantine period to live a solitary life.

The way Ljubica Marić incorporates #Byzantine modes into secular #classicalmusic (with its vocabulary of "#toccata", "aria" etc, and its specific instrumentation) is notable in her 1959 "Vizantijski koncert" [Byzantine #Concerto] - the dialogue between the fluidity of the #piano and solemn, ancient-sounding brass in the first movement is fascinating!
