Euronews: Children are drawing moustaches on their faces to fool online age checks – and it’s working. “One mother told researchers she caught her son using an eyebrow pencil to draw a moustache on his face to pass a platform’s facial age estimation check. It worked. He was verified as 15. He was 12.”

I got a little annoyed about the headlines on the EU Age Verification app, so I put some of my thoughts on it into words.

tl;dr: I'm not really convinced that these were serious vulns, and I don't buy the hype around them.

The Record: Majority of Australian youth still use social media despite ban, researchers find. “Sixty-one percent of Australian children between the ages of 12 and 15 told researchers from a prominent UK foundation and an Australian youth research agency that they can still access accounts on major platforms just as they did before the ban was put in place.”

Engadget: TikTok tightens age verification across Europe. “TikTok is bolstering its age-verification measures across Europe. In the coming weeks, the platform will roll out upgraded age-detection tech in the European Economic Area, as well as in the UK and Switzerland.”

Lifehacker: Roblox’s Age Verification Is a Joke. “…the company announced new age-verification rules last September and November before rolling them out in select countries in December. This week, Roblox put them into effect in the U.S. That all sounds good—the problem is, the system is a bit of a disaster.”
