Penguinifying my main laptop

There are nice tools like #Lutris making gaming for other platforms than #Steam available, i.e. gog.com. Played a round of #Frostpunk. Not particularly successful, but the graphics, the background story and the gaming are to my taste.
Does not miss anything since I quitted Windows usage. For online banking I found a nice alternative with Jameica/Hibiscus in the meantime.

Because my main computer does not run under #Debian very long I deciced to make a clean install from scratch of #Trixie. Steam and it's games are fastly reinstalled, most of the other software is default. /home/myuser was saved before ;)
And many thanks to the #Debian community for their great work.

The system's response times are unusually fast under Debian. Whether it's launching programs, their native speed or switching within the desktop. I've installed several, formerly Windows-based, programs like LibreOffice, Lazarus, FreeCAD, kiCAD, Gimp, FreePlane, Gramps and Kdenlive. So, the transition shouldn't be too difficult for me in the end. Besides, I've been using Debian on my laptop for museum work for quite a long time.

I'm surprised at how smoothly it's been going so far. #Signal Messenger installed, #Nextcloud migrated with two accounts, #Steam is running.
I'll probably choose Evolution as my email client; it has very good calendar and contact integration.

* TOSHIBA QOSMIO X70-B; 17" , i7-4710HQ (8) 2,5GHz, Hybrid-Grafik Intel/ATI Radeon, 8GB RAM, 480GB SSD
* TOSHIBA QOSMIO X770; 17" , i7-2670QM (8) 3,GHz, Hybrid-Grafik Intel/NVIDIA, 8GB RAM, 2x(sic!) 500GB HDDDiese "Trainingsgeräte" laufen jetzt unter #LinuxMint22, vollverschlüsselt.

Finally made the leap to Ubuntu for my desktop. I'm a gamer and didn't feel like I could get away from Windows because of it. But now most games work on Linux, and I'm not gaming as much anyway.
Oh, also Windows wants to install monitoring software to take screenshots of my desktop. There's also that.

Ok.

I'm considering moving from windows to Linux on my main laptop. I use Alma Linux in my server but I'm looking for the most ideal GUI for daily use. Alma worked perfect for what i wanted in a server. I just have no idea what to pick for laptop use. Any advice appreciated. I don't like bloated distros. #linux #byewindows

Switching from Windows to Linux Mint has been a little tricky. OBS was a bit of a pain to set up - the Window Capture in the flatpak version didn't work for whatever reason, but the apt get version did. MixItUp is only for Windows, so no luck there. Also a few Bluetooth connection issues.
But these are really all small annoyances, it's been really smooth otherwise. Also startup is so much faster, you just turn it on and there aren't a bunch of random start up apps. No random ads or pop ups. My start menu limits it's search to apps on my computer.
This feels weirdly like a huge milestone for me! I remember installing Karmic Koala on an ancient Dell desktop, thinking it was so cool, but that my main computer would always have Windows because of gaming. So whenever I upgraded, the old computer would get Linux while the new one would have Windows. Now I don't have any machines on Window and I may never have one again!
