The #gowanus interview with #hasanminhaj is the best thing I've seen on the internet in a while.

It left me feeling encouraged in my efforts to divest from the surveillance state and help my communities do the same.

I deleted Facebook the other day after the beeswaxgate incident. I want a local/hyperlocal swap meet type of setup that does not involve Facebook Marketplace. I hate that the #buynothing communities are largely using Meta to operate. Anyone have ideas or success stories about how to create something like this that is manageable to operate without big tech?

I'm looking right now for a used laser printer. I know they're all over FBM for between $20-50. But how do I find one otherwise???

OMFG American Music has fucking amazing service!

I drove around earlier today to look at amps for my new guitar, and this awesome girl (with cute shoes) helped me out. I ended up leaving with a nice $100 used Fender amp a $25 audio cable and a $5 adaptor. She gave me all of it for ~$90 after tax.

I went home and cranked the amp up. Turns out it had a problem with cutting out at higher volumes. Bummer.

So I took it back. The guy I originally bought my Ibanez Gio electric guitar from tested the amp, determined it wasn't something they could easily fix, and so gave me this beast of an amp that was $150 used instead. It's way fancier than the Fender and sounds great.

The girl from earlier also apologized a bunch and ended up chatting with my girlfriend and I for a bit before we left.

So, this is one of those "they earned a customer for life" stories. Every time I've gone there, they've been great and I've left with used gear for like half the sticker price.

It's at 4450 Fremont Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103 if anyone is interested.

Charity shop finds today! All worked perfectly! Been wanting to listen to more Johnny Cash for the last fifteen years (!), since my nephew, Austin Cash, was born but never got round to it.

Having been given a record player for Christmas has me exploring much more of a range of music than what streaming algorithms push at me.

In today's episode of USED IS BETTER THAN NEW

2014 Specialized Sirrus Comp ($100) vs. Walmart Crappy Bike ($319.99)

(the Specialized had an original MSRP of $1100 back in 2014 -- likely you'll want to invest in new tires/tubes/tuneup).

I have seen one too many memes about how the blame for climate change is entirely on corporations posted by people who *choose* to buy fast fashion, drive, or eat animals, despite having easy access to other options.

Getting married? This guide to #SecondhandWeddingDresses is a great place to start your #SustainableWedding journey. I just tried on my grandmother's dresses (yes, plural!) to see how I'll alter them. Considering she was 10" shorter, this should be interesting…

#3goodthings 1. Double score at the local used shop: hardback copy of #wsmerwin ’s Shadow of Sirius for $10, and a copy of the Long Discourses of the Buddha, a book that costs $50 new, for $25 #buylocal #buyused #poetry #bookstadon 2. One of my oldest and best friends gave me a #startrek mug for #christmas when we met up for coffee today. 3. I got something like three hours of sleep last night, but haven’t experienced much negative fallout from it

While my fellow Americans mindfully give 🙏 this weekend, it’s a perfect time to implement some simple swaps to make your day-to-day living more sustainable. And while a truly #CircularEconomy requires structural and individual change, we each can play a role in fighting #ClimateChange.

🤍 GRATEFUL 🤍 Today & every day.

In advance of #SecondhandSunday, Denny & I want to show you just how great #SecondhandFashion can look. I found this dress at an Oxfam shop in 2018; the hat is 10+ years old. Den's shirt & shorts came from vintage & thrift stores -- he's now a #SecondhandFirst convert.

As a #secondhandfirst shopper all year round, I’m thrilled to read about the first annual #SecondhandSunday from #Poshmark! What a better way to show your love for your friends, family, and the planet while participating in the #circulareconomy.

An Android 12 ready phone with a capable camera at around PhP4K? Get a used/refurbished Pixel 3a/3a XL. The 64GB non-expandable storage isn't a deal-breaker because you can just pair it with a 128GB USB-C flash drive (~PhP500) via OTG.

Buying a refurbished laptop has lots of advantages! You can keep a perfectly good device out of the dump while also saving a whole lot of money.

Wow, this #Diablo3 #ReaperOfSouls #PS3 disc is NOISY! Fortunately this edition has an install option, so that should hopefully significantly reduce any disc loading.
I was almost regretting getting a physical copy #2ndhand from #GameStopcs #BuyUsed section for about ten bucks, rather than the digital download edition.

Still, a shame there is no #crossPlatform #multiplayer through #BattleNet... Downside of locked down console platforms that want to earn money of their multiplayer subscriptions.

So, yesterday I picked up an #xbox360 and #PS3 dirt cheap.
Any game recommendations I should look for in the #bargainbin and at the #secondhand / #buyUsed sections?
Over-hyped game titles I should avoid, are welcome as well.
