I'm really glad that Music Millennium in Portland, Oregon is still going strong (since 1969).

Going to the record store has always been so important for me. I can burn hours there!

Coming home with "a few" new cds and listening to them, is what its all about. A shared community experience.

Our owned music may stay with us our entire life. The choice is ours.

Today is Bandcamp Friday.

Don’t know what that means?

Bandcamp is a platform where musicians sell their music. So you buy it instead of streaming it. (I know, stay with me.) On Bandcamp Friday they wave fees, so artists get 100% of their revenue.

Today I’m gonna buy Kishi Bashi's “Tall Tall Trees & The Sound Sanctuary” and pre-order Russian Circles’ “Nine.”

Go find something you love:

P.S. If you have music on Bandcamp, @ me on a post linking to your music. Unless you’re a fascist I’ll boost it. Hopefully others will, too.

Fediverse, I need your help. If I buy music on iTunes, I am then downloading it and own it, or is licensed and need always iTunes for listening?

So Bandcamp playlisting is now a thing. Does anyone actually still buy music and intend to create some?

If you're like me and are allergic to giving your money to people like Bezos, but you still want to purchase music from artists on labels that don't have a Bandcamp presence, check sites like https://us.7digital.com/ or https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/shop

You own NOTHING with streaming and you're paying the artists almost nothing. There's only a few places left if artists don't provide a direct purchase option.

“On December 6th, fans like you came together to support the music they love, spending $3.1 million on artists and labels, fueling new albums, tours, and countless creative projects, making this the biggest Bandcamp Friday since February 2022!”

Bandcamp Friday CD purchase ✅

#Music #BuyMusic

I bought an album on Bandcamp today. One I raved about recently after discovering it as part of my weekly new music list. I’ll probably never listen to the downloaded files as it’s in Apple Music and I’ll listen there.

I want to buy at least one album a week in future.

She also cancelled a short tour in England this week as she’d lose too much money.

I’ll be ordering a physical copy of the new album.

Buy music!

It’s a new music Wednesday, it’s not a thing but it should be.

You know that song that has been playing in your feed, you can probably buy the cd directly from the artist or their label.

The full version is probably better than the clip, and they probably have other bangers on that album too.

A few months ago I sent @peoplelikeus some dollars an I just got this lovely CD in the mail! Love Vicki's show, Do or DIY on @WFMU

I like the Copia name with all the flowers. Nature's copulation and creation- an apt theme for the plunderphonic, collage y creation celebration tracks on the album.

I listened to the album a few times cover to cover on my long trip in the car delivering a bunch of neon. #escapefromnewyork

Quite a few gems, but I must say, "Hymn to Collage" (track 5) is my favorite. I enjoy the spirit of cutting newspaper collage as "writing" and "work of art" Did Buttress Okneal put all those double bass blast beats in there!?

Hooray for hard copy! Time to dig up my CD drive to make a copy to store on my home server.

Beyond The Dawn by Kate Bush is back in my Music Library where it belongs. Ripped from the CD I bought when it turned out I had only rented the rights on iTunes in 2016.

Buying CDs will play a more significant part in my music consumption in the future, I think. Maybe not back to how it was before the advent of the iTunes Store and Streaming.

Sp***fy has something like 600,000 paid subscriptions in Ireland. It's approx €9.99 a month. That's almost €6,000,000 a month going to mainly the big labels and artists. Imagine what €6 million a month going to Irish artists would do! Even just for a month.
