Working on a Master's degree in Management Information Systems, focusing in on using data to drive the retail grocery industry.

The peak of my academic life (up to this point) is really going to come from using classic queer media as sources for my thesis. So far I'm at:
1. The Boys in the Band (1968, 1970, 2018)
2. La Cage aux Folles (1973, 1978)
3. The Birdcage (1996)
4. Paris Is Burning (1990)
5. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1973, 1975)

They all connect back to the creation of queer spaces...somehow. La Cage aux Folles is even literally about managing a drag bar.

In the work that has already been produced on my research focus, the face off that I've seen most often is gay bar versus LGBTQ bar.
The argument from one side is that gay bar is unnecessary gendering and creates the atmosphere of a strictly men's bar. The argument from the other direction is that gay has become a more generalized term and is no longer as gendered.

What I'm concerned about is how that impacts the ROI. (joke)

Whoops, am I screwing myself over by applying to a management PhD program at a school where my platonic partner teaches? Even if he was the one who encouraged me to come to his region to do my research? Being a gay in business gets very complicated very quickly.

Heading to another Gulf Coast Diplomacy meeting tomorrow afternoon. Hosted in its usual spot in a historic district bar. Which means heading into downtown Pensacola to intermingle with the springbreakers. In a navy pinstripe suit and gecko tie. All so I can talk to diplomats about economic development and extension agencies and freedom of thought.
