It’s disingenuous of you to bring in a non-sequitur (Epstein affair) into this conversation.

If the purpose of someone who, for whatever reason, decides to stand up an #instance on the #fedi is to make it a financially viable enterprise, then good luck to them because they are likely to fail. There is no #BusinessCase to support this.

It is my observation that most, if not all, instances are stood up from the perspective of idealism. The ideal that an internet #Agora can and should flourish in order to put #Grifting and #Toxic platforms out of business (along with all other Fedi ideals I commented on earlier). It is entirely #voluntary, i.e. not remunerated.

The fedi will live or die by the good nature of its hosts and supporters.

ERGO: #Donate what you can, when you can, to you host instance folks. The #InternetAgora depends on it. If you cannot afford it, support the #Fediverse and praise its lofty goals in your loudest voice.

So organisations/companies realize that the topmodels are way too expensive for 80-90% of the things they want to use AI for. So they will move to cheaper models/versions, opensource models, on premis etc. At the same time OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI need more revenue to cover their outrageous costs/investments. How will they solve this? Just with big defense/government contracts?
