  1. So...I truly understand the "he needs killin'" feeling that can happen when one hears of a horrific crime. The urge for vengeance is hardwired into Abrahamic cultures. (That's a whole different essay.)

But I do not want the State, or any government, to commit murder in my name. #Texas is about to do it's 600th #execution. That's a lot, y'all. That's a lot.

Laura Lee #Crane was an amazing woman who spent her life teaching, mentoring and protecting children with disabilities. That she died this way is a stain on humanity.

Edward #Busby is a monster. His excuse is insulting to people with intellectual disabilities, who are quite capable of knowing that duct taping an elderly woman and putting her in a trunk in Texas heat is unambiguously bad and wrong.

But the stain of her murder is not erased by killing her murderer. It just adds to the body count.

The state cannot be trusted to be fair. Especially Texas's bloodthirsty Yeehawdists.

  3. The Ghost of Madame Turner

Barely a glimpse of Busby Hall can be gained from the limit of the Public Bridleway which follows the old coach road leading to the estate. Remarkably, this track once served as the main entrance. Presently, entry is gained through the village of Carlton-in-Cleveland. Pevsner, the architectural historian, offers a description of the hall as "Ashlar. Five ...

  5. @canayjun Seems to have worked. The emails have persuaded council to back down.
Though it seems a bit more nuanced. Apparently handing out water etc. was already against bylaws, just not enforced. Also, a local organization called #Busby that's been doing so for years has agreed to only do so on private property going forward. Good write-up on #cp24 cp24.com/news/barrie-council-h
