  1. It's a bit tardy, but with so many Burns Suppers still to be had this year, let this whet your whistle for whisky and haggis.
A wee tale of the Bard as an Exciseman, and a reminder he was at heart a radical.

  6. CW: food pics, non-vegan

    My take on #BurnsSupper.

Haggis is hard to find in my Canadian province, despite the very high proportion of people here with Scottish origins. Every year I say I'm going to plan ahead and order one, but I'm terrible at planning and every year I end up not making dinner at all.

This year I just forged ahead with a shredded roast beef instead, and it turned out lovely. Pictured here with neaps & tatties and a whisky gravy.

  26. Popped into Tesco in town earlier for our annual #SingleMalt #whisky shop in time for #BurnsSupper tomorrow, I always go one peaty/Islay and one smooth/Speyside — doesn't necessarily need to be geographically exactly from those locations, it's more of a flavour guideline. I have a preference for the peaty stuff (I miss the days of Lagavulin 16 being easily available, and somewhat affordable) but for a whisky sauce and to go with the haggis I prefer the non-peated whisky, with the peated one for afters/"dessert".

It's funny how the Tesco/supermarket whisky range has changed in the span of my 20 years in the UK. It used to be many of the big classic "age" specified brands. Now days they're mostly gone and it's all weird special releases and a lot harder to have a feeling for what it is you're buying. When you like whisky but you only buy 2 or 3 bottles a year it's a little stressful trying to pick something out.

Was ich sehr schade finde. […]

  34. Serve with traditional haggis, neeps (turnips) and tatties (potatoes). Heavily sherried whiskies like Glenfarclas pair beautifully with the rich flavors. Love peat? Reach for Lagavulin, Talisker, or Ardbeg.

Whether you're reciting "Address to a Haggis" or simply enjoying Scotland's finest, make it a night to remember. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
