  1. Human Burial And Dealing With The Undead And Ghosts

For as long as us humans have been alive, we have had to deal with death, and the fear that the dead may possibly come back to life, or that their spirits may walk the Earth at the point of death. Due to this fear, people have come up with many ways in which to prevent this from happening. Some of these methods involve wrapping ropes, cloth, chains and padlocks around the feet of the deceased in order to prevent them from walking out of their coffin, or laying a scythe on their chest, so if […]

  3. Begging for My Mother: Find A Grave and the Strangers Who Collect Our Dead

This morning I signed into Find A Grave to update my mother's memorial and discovered that I no longer manage her page. No email warned me. Nothing in my account records the change. Six family memorials, five of them sponsored with my own money in the weeks after my mother died, and my name has been stripped from every one. The site that once made me beg for custody of my own dead has taken that custody back, in silence, and left me to discover the loss the way you discover a missing wallet: by reaching for something that should be there. […]

  6. A bit of an interesting historical curiosity: Based on ancient DNA analysis, common burial in Medieval times, including that of children, didn't necessarily have anything to do with being from the same family.

"Crowds across #Mashhad were seen demanding Trump’s assassination while waving large banners that called for their leader to be avenged.

“'I swear by the blood of the Supreme ‌Leader, Trump, we will kill you!' the crowds shouted."

  10. A New Milestone for the Green Pet-Burial Society

Hope Gangloff, Beauty and the Beasts, 2009. Acrylic on canvas. 62 x 82 in. Copyright and permission by the artist.

The Green Pet-Burial Society (GPBS) has reached an important milestone. Family Spirals®, the nonprofit organization that hosts GPBS, is now an independent 501(c)(3) charity registered with the IRS.

This new chapter makes it easier for people, businesses, and foundations to support our work as we expand education, advocacy, and whole-family ecocemeteries that honor both families and the natural world (see below).

    Here are some additional developments:

    • New articles coming soon. We’ll soon be writing about recent breakthroughs in transporting a pet’s remains back home by air and encouraging developments in Brazil’s embrace of whole-family cemeteries. If you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss these and future updates.
    • Gabriel Yuri joins our Arts League. Architect, designer, and photographer Gabriel Yuri—whose work has been featured in Architectural Digest—is collaborating with us on Spaces for Living Beings, a new initiative exploring how our homes and shared environments can enrich the lives of people and the animals who live with us.
    • New art and film at the Center for Families & Animals™.
      • Contemporary artist Hope Gangloff has generously granted permission for two of her paintings—Beauty and the Beasts and Moolog, Dad and Kieve—to be added to our Contemporary Gallery.
      • We’ve also featured Serge Avédikian’s award-winning animated short, Barking Island, about the 1910 deportation of thousands of dogs from Constantinople, in the Short Film Gallery.
      • We hope you’ll also take a few moments to explore our growing galleries of art, film, and other resources exploring different aspects of our relationships with various animals and the natural world.

    New ways to support GPBS:

    • Workplace giving
    • Employer matching gifts
    • Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)
    • Vehicle donations
    • Business sponsorships

Visit our Family Spirals Giving with Purpose page to learn more about these and other ways to support GPBS.

As always, thanks to everyone who has encouraged, supported, and shared in our vision of a more compassionate world for people, other animals, and this Earth we all call home.

    With gratitude,
    Eric Greene
    Founder & President

  13. Dear Friends of Nature,

    As we may know:

    1) UK #Black #Leopards rare to the point of unbelief roam our edge #wilderness
    countryfile.com/news/big-cat-c
There should be a bumper crop of new #cubs as #British temperatures soar.

    2) The last line of defense is our wildlife. The #Greens even now may be protecting and encouraging these #feline hunters. Hopefully?

    3) Maybe #Jains and sky #burial advocates will be providing volunteer #feeding points for those wishing to return to nature in their last moments?

    4) I would love to be eaten. The ultimate #recycling and a fitting end to my mostly #omnivore tendencies. Who is with me? Too gruesome for thine refined tastes?

    5) Is it time to capture and tag/track our rarest guest animals to manage our illegal human hunter population. Maybe it could be added to our Black project list for future assessment and exposure?

Feed the imagined. Protect the Wild. Hunt the entitled.

this musician I was researching this morning (Jacob Kushner, violinist, born c.1880) had his leg buried in his Independent Brisker Young Men plot in NY 2 years before he died, a practice I have to admit till now I was ignorant of.🫣
