Boiled the bunya nuts until i saw the ends split a bit (under an hour-ish). The water goes reddy brown.

Now drained and set aside to cool.

Read that you can drink the reddened bunya water too so had a taste (it's not a strong flavour but nice in a brothy kind of way). Though i also read it's a dye. 🤷‍♀️

One small bunya pine cone from my first foraging excursion wouldn't open. So left it outside in the yard for a week or so. Noticed it was starting to open so looked to see if there were any nuts. Yes, but not many. Going to boil them up anyway and see how it goes.

The nuts that didn't turn out were brown inside and squishy. Bit sad i won't have enough to make anything. But it's been exciting just having a go.

One bunya nut out of all those turned out. And it was yummy. Nutty but also a bit like a really nice potato chip or roast potato. Going to try again and hope for more nuts working out.
