Stumbling Block
It seems I have always been stumbling, tripping over the unintended in a fog of wandering wonder.
The mist has been ever around me, my cloud by day. I am enveloped by mystery.
You do indeed love to surprise me, O God;
two girls find shiny stones in a fountain and their joy chases away the despair at not finding a loved one,
the hospitality of friends lightens the weight upon a heavy chest from a returning to what was and the traveler can breathe again into what will be,
a mother’s words and the night breeze dries a daughter’s tears and she can smile at the deep thrum of a bullfrog,
lovers lie for a moment in the morning and the frustrations of yesterday fade into the quiet beginnings of another day.
It is time then.
I rise up into the bone crackling morning, my body protesting, my spirit already stretching out along the places I will see.
Inside, I find I am ready for more stumbling.

Still don't think #AI companies are terrible? Here's #OpenAI's Shivon Zilis and #xAI's Elon Musk (when he was OpenAI too), casually talking about "slowing down" former #Bullfrog & #Lionhead gamedev Demis Hassabis because his work at #Deepmind was putting it ahead of theirs.
And I mean, they're clearly talking about murder, no?

I found this interview so incredibly inspiring.
Obviously I'm not a games developer, but in some ways I think game dev is emblematic is the fusion between art and craft that represents the soul of computing :)
This gent started out building games for his Commodore 64 and then went on to work for industry greats like Bullfrog, Lionhead and Media Molecule.
His thoughts on AI, "organic intelligence" and the creative spark are super interesting.

Wisst ihr was ich #DungeonKeeper damals wie heute hoch anrechne?
Die Möglichkeit einen bereits gewonnenen Level fortzuführen.
Ihr müsst wissen, geht an die Jüngeren, damals gehörte "freeplay", also nur so zum Spaß rumdaddeln, noch nicht zum Konzept. Dungeon Keeper hatte nicht mal einen Skirmish Mode. Da war es nach bestandenem Level immer eine kleine Wohltat zu verschnaufen und den Kreaturen in den eigenen Gemäuern beim wuseln & hochleveln zuzuschauen, hier und da noch ein paar Fallen zu platzieren, geheime Objekte zu bergen, etc.Beinahe 30 Jahre später noch immer ein großes Lob an #Bullfrog.

Driving to a party with Kobl one night, we stopped by where the creek had a pool with bullfrogs. He stood on the bank and I waded slowly through the water, while he dazzled frogs with a flashlight.
I caught a big bullfrog, stuffing it in a beer cooler.
We got to the party, walked in and sat down. I put the cooler on the floor, saying nothing.
Host Marb asks, "So, what's in the cooler?"
"Biggest bullfrog you ever seen!" I answered.

Pondering a large-knobs desktop monosynth (which will actually almost entirely be a bunch of my #eurorack designs with larger I/O boards, a ton of sane normalling, and a single common panel).
In my defense, I actually have a specific use-case in mind. I spent some time last weekend at BOOM Club in #DurhamNC (https://www.boom-club.org/) and ppl definitely seemed hesitant to touch the synths on display, despite it intentionally being set up as a synth petting zoo.
So what I *want* to do is similar to what the #Erica #Bullfrog does -- a friendly monosynth that demonstrates typical synth signal flow in a hands-on fashion.
Why not just use the Bullfrog? Well, mostly because I don't necessarily agree w/some of their choices :)
Like, I agree with "no built in keyboard" because Too Much Trouble. But I think "make weird squelchy noises" gets old quickly for most people, so I want to include a simple playable 8-step sequencer.
And I want the thing fully normalled so that there's a default working flow with zero patches -- but still make it patchable.
Now all I need is for freaking Trump to back down from his China tariffs . . .

Dungeon Keeper is one of my all time favourite games. It was the late 90s and developer Bullfrog were at the height of their powers, producing a deep RTS filled with humour and character.
I'm listening to the #dosgameclub podcast on the game and, despite finishing DK back in the day, I'm learning a lot. I have the GOG version so I think I'll have another play soon.
