  1. YES! Bulk-billing hits 81.4% nationwide – biggest quarterly jump in 20+ years thanks to Labor's $multi-billion Medicare boost. More than 3,400 fully bulk-billing clinics now, biggest gains in regional & working-class areas. This is what fighting for universal healthcare looks like! Keep the pressure on – push toward 90%+ by 2030 and deeper fixes for chronic care equity. No one skips the doc because of cost. More of this, please!

  2. New data shows the share of GPs offering bulk billing has started to recover. This is a welcome relief for Australians doing it tough.
But let's be clear: this is a repair job. The previous LNP government deliberately and almost completely destroyed bulk billing through years of funding freezes and neglect. They drove clinics to the brink, forcing millions to pay upfront for the first time.
The current government is slowly turning that around, but there's a long way to go to restore universal, affordable access to a GP.

  3. Technically, bulk billing GPs do still exist. In my urban area there are three (30mins away) but they don't accept new patients. They're choccas. Everything else around me is about $100 for a quick consultation, minus whatever rebate Medicare offers.

Pretty significant disincentive to just see a doctor in case something is not quite right. Makes you stop and ask yourself, do I really need to see the doctor? Can I Google this instead?

So much of modern medicine is built around early detection to maximise outcomes. Decades of eroding Medicare in Australia now ensures that the first line of contact with medical assistance is a barrier.

  4. Labor's great election promise is that by the completion of the bulk-billing payment increases in ~2030, #BulkBilling GPs will receive less revenue per patient than they do right now billing privately with a medicare rebate & gap.

That's *before* taking inflation into account.

That's supposed to *increase* bulk billing rates.

  5. “The report showed the percentage of clinics offering bulk-billing had also fallen by an average of 3.5 per cent across the country.

Only 20.7 per cent of clinics nationwide still offer #bulkbilling to all patients, according to the report , down from 24.2 per cent in 2024.”

  6. Adam Bandt is correct, #Labor is the dog whose tail is still wagged by the #LNP. #Stage3taxcuts have to go. The need for trained people in all areas should mean #FreeTAFE #FreeEd #BulkBilling #FreeChildCare #Insiders #AusPol

  7. One of these days I will master multi-platform communications and my work and personal commitments will flow naturally around this.

I’ve had a rough time following the news lately, seeing so much pain reflected in so many areas of our society. Social cohesion is breaking down along racial, sex, identify and class lines at almost every turn - and it’s overwhelming that some very basic concepts of civil society as social cohesion aren’t being targeted more clearly.

I want our government to prioritise ending poverty and housing tenure and affordability issues. No life benefits from having to lift up and move regularly without a home base, or from a lack of ability to pay for the essentials.

Our prisons are filling up with poverty crimes. Including from domestic violence and break and enters. There’s fights and more graffiti. There’s less contentment and less protection for workers than at any other time in decades. Our Medicare #bulkbilling has fallen behind supporting doctors to provide healthcare to whole communities. Our hospitals are crowded because people who can’t afford a more and more common ask of paying the gap fee now have no alternative but to use them. Instead of demonstrating an understanding of the systemic nature of poverty creation we penalise and further entrench distrust of those we treat with such contempt.

What is Australian identity that so many can comfortably ignore such enormous tragedy for outcomes and lives?

  8. I wonder what #NationalCabinet will put forward to fix the #healthcare system? It's very concerning to watch GP's who have long supported #bulkBilling, abandon is entirely with fees coming in, enough to make old Tony Abbott's $5 co-payment look generous

My hopes are in Labor standing strong on #Medicare, with their power there Federally and through a majority of the states, they can show if "it's time" #auspol #albo
