One thing about the #eleventy #buildawesome Kickstarter I will say - I really don't know how to use Kickstarter 😅

In my capacity as #11ty / #BuildAwesome evangelist, I wrote a post about why I'm obsessed with #SSG s:

Thank you, @j9t! So useful! I am wondering if you plan to bundle this in an #Eleventy / #BuildAwesome plugin 👀

The Programmer’s Fulcrum: 08 May, 2026This post originally appeared on The Fulcrum.
Welcome to this week’s The Programmer’s Fulcrum.
It’s your weekly curation of the essential news in the Open Media Network and Fediverse development communities with a focus on devastating big tech via Techno Anarchism.
There is a lot of coverage of the shitshow that is ShitHub this week. And that makes me so happy I moved to Codeberg several […]

A rant on the current state of 11ty and my blog

The Build Awesome Kickstarter is back up, already hit its goal in less than a day.
I backed it, because I do want to see Leatherman and OSS projects as a whole succeed monetarily and be sustainable. I hope there is an audience for Build Awesome Pro despite my doubts.
That said, seeing one of the main features of Build Awesome be that "Cursor can refactor it, Claude can rewrite it, and your own scripts can manipulate it (safely)." and that "Build Awesome was designed for a world where your agentic assistant is a full contributor" is certainly frustrating and disappointing.

Supporting my favorite open source project and trusting the future is bright for #11ty #BuildAwesome so I just backed Build Awesome Pro on @kickstarter.com @11ty

Moving away from WordPress – important* info
When I started this blog in 2017, I picked WordPress almost at random, just so I could get started with something. And it has worked well enough.
But:
- it’s not cheap
- it’s a pain to make layout adjustments
- the post editor is clunky and sluggish
- WordPress.com sites are at least partially hosted in the US.
Because my blog is essentially a static website (comments section aside), I’ve decided to switch to a static site generator (Eleventy/Build Awesome) and a fully European web hosting provider (statichost.eu), which offers a free tier for small sites like mine.
How this might affect you
If you follow the blog, this will be the last post you’ll be notified about. After that, there will be:
- no more email updates
- no more WordPress notifications
- no more Mastodon cross-posting.
If you still want to hear from me
The transponderings blog is not dead, and I do plan to post from time to time (when my AuDHD brain allows!).
You will be able to:
- visit transponderings.blog as before
- follow/discuss/support the blog on Ko-fi
- follow the blog and get notifications using an RSS newsreader.
Thank you so much for supporting my blog. ☺️

Anyone know of a guide on how to migrate a Build Awesome (11ty) site to Forgejo from GitHub? I somehow got stuck on the SSH auth setup last I tried 😭 I may just need to try again with fresh eyes.
I've been deploying to Neocities with GitHub Actions thanks to @sophie's great guide. I'm sure Forgejo actions will also be a sticking point so any tips here would be awesome. https://localghost.dev/blog/how-i-deploy-my-eleventy-site-to-neocities/

I watched @zachleat's AMA during THE 11ty Meetup and I appreciate his accountability and honesty about the shift from #11ty to #BuildAwesome. Now that I've had a chance to simmer and think about the realities of an open source project funding specifically, I feel better about the shift for the longevity of 11ty.
In considering the scale of businesses and organizations that rely on 11ty, yet aren't adequately supporting the project (fuck them, honestly.), I feel grateful to Zach that he found a home for 11ty that will support continued development. I also feel for Zach navigating the balance between making a damn living and maintaining the homegrown feel of 11ty and it's community. It's an impossible paradox.
I still hate the new name, and that's okay. The shift is a response to problems bigger than me and I can accept that. I will forever be grateful to the 11ty community for helping me build my development skills and finding a web home that feels encouraging and kind. 💖

https://brennan.day/build-awesomes-kickstarter-is-cancelled/So, with the whole 11ty/"build awesome" situation, what should I do about my projects that are built with it? A lot of people are suggesting just switching to other SSGs, but I really like my setup.
Can I just "freeze" my version of 11ty so that it doesn't update? Or only install this current version and not any future versions for future projects I might want to make?

The recording of my @11ty Meetup presentation (with related links and code samples) is now available: https://cloudfour.com/thinks/little-dummies-simple-fpo-content-helpers/
Big thanks to @sia for having me, @zachleat for encouraging my possum drawings, and especially everyone who attended the talk!

I had a Last.fm widget on my site in 2010. Fifteen years later, I brought it back as an Eleventy WebC component with SSR, live polling, and localStorage caching.

Build Awesome is live!
Static by default. Durable HTML. No DB required. Host anywhere.
And Pro adds team-friendly workflow tools (collab, templates, publishing, safer edits).

I've been thinking about the #eleventy to #buildawesome change a lot today. I have many thoughts so I'll try and do a blog post instead of a toot, just need to get things in order.

Here at @cloudfour, we do a lot of design and prototyping in the browser, often via @11ty (or should I say #BuildAwesome ??)
At the next #Eleventy Meetup (Thursday, March 12 at 9am PDT), I’ll be sharing some of my favorite little helpers for quick and easy placeholder content: https://11tymeetup.dev
This is a free and virtual #event !

I'll try to remain optimistic, but #11ty - sorry, #BuildAwesome - pivoting to describe itself as a "platform" is a bit of a red flag.
Watch closely.

Looking over the #BuildAwesome stretch goals: Stripe Integration at $200k would be a big one for me, as would the final audio/video media library. Good stuff ahead, and I hope this helps to usher in a renewed interest in people building (and owning) their own sites again.

Holy Moly! The static site generator #11ty is joining forces with the Font Awesome / Web Awesome team to become #BuildAwesome. This is the most exciting news to hit my inbox in a while!

Interesting!
