Fun fact. I used to belong to the #ChessClub in high school. I memorized what moves my pieces could make, then would beat my opponents by NOT using standard chess strategies, instead just doing some random move that would throw them off, allowing me to win. I never took chess very seriously either and had fun with it -- something else that would piss off my opponents. I think there's some sort of life-lesson there. Heh. No wonder #BugsBunny was one of my heroes growing up. He had a knack for throwing off his opponents as well (though I think giving my opponent a big wet kiss would violate protocol. Though I might have done that with one of my exes when we played chess. 💋 ).

The first appearance of Bugs Bunny was on this day in 1938. "Porky's Hare Hunt"
While Porky's Hare Hunt was the first Warner Bros. cartoon to feature a Bugs Bunny-like rabbit, "A Wild Hare", directed by Tex Avery and released on July 27, 1940, is widely considered to be the first official Bugs Bunny cartoon. It is the first film where both Elmer Fudd and Bugs (both redesigned by Bob Givens) are shown in their fully developed forms as hunter and tormentor, respectively; the first in which Mel Blanc uses what would become Bugs' standard voice; and the first in which Bugs uses his catchphrase, "What's up, Doc?" "A Wild Hare" was a huge success in theaters and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Cartoon Short Subject.
