Skończyłem "The Body: A Guide for Occupants" Billa Brysona, czyli książki poświęconej ludzkiemu organizmowi. Jeżeli kilka cytatów, które tu wrzucałem przez ostatnie dni (a stanowią jedynie podzbiór moich zakładek, które z kolei stanowią podzbiór wszystkiego, co ciekawe), nie wystarczy, to zarekomenduję ją wprost.

Osoby, które wcześniej czytały Brysona, prawdopodobnie nie potrzebują więcej rekomendacji. Dla pozostałych: autor (po raz kolejny) osiągnął doskonałą równowagę pomiędzy rzeczami ważnymi, a ciekawostkami; pomiędzy powagą i humorem; pomiędzy byciem zwięzłym, a zaspokojeniem ciekawości.

Jedynym, co mi przeszkadzało, bycie uwzględnienie kwot, ile poszczególne problemu kosztują "gospodarkę". Rozumiem, że uwzględnienie tych liczb może przekonać niektórych z czytelników, że inwestycja w służbę zdrowia przyniesie korzyść nawet dla ich portfeli. Niemniej, nie potrafię znieść takiego kapitalistycznego przeliczania ludzi na pieniądze.

I've finished reading Bill Bryson's "The Body: A Guide for Occupants" today, the book dedicated to the organism. If the few quotes I've posted over the last days (and they're just a subset of what I've bookmarked, and even that was a subset of what I found interesting), I'm going to explicitly recommend it as well.

If you read #Bryson already, I suppose I don't need to add anything. If you didn't, the author (once again) strikes a perfect balance between the important and the trivia, between seriousness and humor, between being concise and providing enough detail to satiate your curiosity.

My only complaint would be including quotas on how much various problems cost "the economy". While I understand that these numbers might be able to persuade some readers that investing in a better health care would be a net gain on their wallets, I just can't stand this capitalistic approach of thinking of people as potential profit or loss.
