The Brown Booby is a mostly equatorial species, rare even in Florida and off the gulf coast. No legband so not an escapee…
It’s been suggested he came to support his team at the World Cup games going on here. I prefer that narrative to something more likely and darker.

Here is an immature brown booby () that I saw on the dock at Costa Maya, Mexico last year.
"Found in tropical oceans around the world, the Brown Booby is a dashing seabird—both in plumage, a natty brown-and-white (with bright yellow feet) and in-flight style, which involves swift aerial maneuvers and deft dives. Brown Boobies do not nest on the United States mainland but often visit waters off Florida or California. They occasionally stray as far north as Canada, and sometimes well inland. For todays #PhotoOfTheDay we cruise through the Caribbean with a friend. This brown booby spent the afternoon surfing the bow of the ship as we cruised through the Bahamas. As the sun set it decided to stay with the ship and settled down on the short jackstaff at the bow. It wasn't there in the morning so no drama with US customs 😃
