'Magical' #NatureReserve in #UK that inspired #BronteSisters named 'wonder of the world'
The first of its kind nature reserve in #WestYorkshire has been named one of the 'wonders of the world' to visit in 2026 and it's a traveller's paradise.
by Parul Sharma, 24 Jan 2026
"A stunning nature reserve, whose landscape famously inspired the Brontë sisters, is being touted as a must-see for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers.
Article continues below"This pioneering nature reserve in West Yorkshire has been making waves after recently being named one of the wonders of the world to visit in 2026 by esteemed international travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveller.
"The picturesque reserve was established in May 2025 as part of King Charles' initiative of 25 National Nature Reserves (#NNRs), designed to conserve wildlife and celebrate UK landscapes by providing enhanced protection to the unique topography within these designated areas.
"Covering 3,148 acres (1,274 hectares) - roughly double the size of Ilkley Moor - the reserve connects eight natural sites within the Bradford and #SouthPennines area, including the famous #Penistone Country Park in #Haworth, once home to the #Brontë sisters, Charlotte, Emily and Anne."

For any fans of literature, classical novels and the Brontë sisters. A photo of Anne Brontë’s grave in our local churchyard (St. Mary’s) taken a few days ago. She died on May 28th 1849, aged 29 (not 28 as per the stone.) The main headstone faded through weathering (the cemetery’s situated on an exposed cliff top) and a new stone was added a few years ago to mark the site. -
I'm not sure if it is because I'm a librarian or obsessed with lists, but it seems I've read nearly 50 titles of #JaneAusten and #BronteSisters related books! Hopefully some of these will end up on your TBR pile! 👉🏻 https://excessivelydiverting.substack.com/p/jane-austen-and-the-brontes-issue-23-confessions-of-an-austen-obsessed-reader

I just posted the list of virtual events and talks for #JaneAusten and the #BronteSisters a few weeks ago but a few events are coming up before October 1 (when I'm next posting) that might be of interest! 👉🏻 https://open.substack.com/pub/excessivelydiverting/p/austen-bronte-issue-21-upcoming-virtual-events?r=1ep55&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Watched "Emily" on @kanopy last night. I love period films. But I'm tired of them making up hot relationships for women when there's no evidence of them. Cut it out.
I'm looking at you, #Ammonite.

Wuthering Heights is one of my favourite novels and I really like the illustrations of Fritz Eichenberg, so pleased to have picked up this 1943 edition in great condition for a bargain £4.
(There's an accompanying edition of Jane Eyre but alas that wasn't available for a steal)

Thornton, Bradford. The old St James' Church. Built in 1587 and ruins now. It's probably famous for where Patrick Bronte was a vicar at, and said to be the happiest days of his life. He lived in Thornton along with where his children were born, the famous Bronte sisters, before moving to Haworth.
