So I'm trying out the #Bromite based #Chromium that comes on CalyxOS instead of Firefox and when I started to type the web address for my Jellyfin server into the address bar (testing an http redirect I had set up), it started recommending the full URLs of random other people's Jellyfin servers that I have never visited. One of these worked and loaded the login page. I'm using #DuckDuckGo as my search engine. How did these get indexed and recommended to me?

@mkiol No question. It's certainly always important to seek alternatives. However, #Brave is one of the examples (#Vivaldi, #Edge, #Chrome, #Chromium, #Bromite …), which I find also troubling because at the end of the day, it's focused on just one rendering engine. These are then monopolies, which are often not good for the user.
#Mozilla's is actually the only competitor currently regarding rendering engines (#Gecko, #Quantum) to Google (#Blink. #WebKit). -

‣ macOS builds are often unsigned, meaning exposure to more security risks;
‣ No synchronization to speak of;

Yes, but the OS ships with an auto-updating app store, a free email address plus @nextcloud account, and a fully functioning @microg. This is what non-techies need.

Could @e_mydata please replace their deprecated Browser and Webview in their OS and switch to #Cromite or #MulchBrowser? #Bromite has been highly out of date for a long time now. Its use is a security risk.

#Cromite #browser is a #Chromium fork based on #Bromite with built-in support for ad blocking and an eye for privacy.
Cromite is available for Android Marshmallow and above (v6.0, API level 23) and Windows.

There are basically two contributors.
csagan5is the maintainer and then there'suazo.Reading between the lines it seems csagan5 is having life interfering with Bromite. They made a draft PR in January for v109, surfaced in May to say they'd update it to some later version and then went below the radar again.[0]
uazo has been releasing up-to-date test builds at github.com/uazo/bromite-buildt… where the latest is v115 and says "Please note: this is the last release, the next one will be in github.com/uazo/cromite"[1]

Ever since I updated my browser (#Bromite, which is Chromium-based but with privacy), Mastodon no longer works smoothly. The good news is the alt text window is fixed. The bad news is regular blank screens or an inability to load a fresh version of the site.
The solution, it seems, is to go to one of my own sites first, then load Mastodon. Great for getting me an extra hit, but hardly practical. The fault obviously lies with Chromium or Bromite. Anyone else found this issue? -

#Brave invece rimane ad oggi un’ottima alternativa “tutto incluso”. Se non volete scaricarlo dal #PlayStore potete installarlo direttamente dal codice sorgente usando l’applicazione #FFUpdater:

The saga of trying to build the monster that is Chromium for Android, reproducibly, all from source:

guix manages to build ungoogled-chromium for GNU and that's hard enough, but for Android it's even trickier. Part of the problem is as usual to disentangle the Play Services dependencies.
For now it is, indeed, unobtainable.
To even almost-succeed you need over 4 GiB virtual memory for the linking, over 10 GiB disk space for the sources alone and over 30 GiB disk space for the build artifacts. If you are a bit starved for CPU or I/O you're looking at s 24+ hour build.

After installing Ubuntu Touch on a 2013 Nexus 7 tablet, I purchased another to use with LineageOS. In this post, I discuss the install process and subsequently rooting my device with Magisk. Thus far, it has worked well and I use my LineageOS Nexus 7 for reading the news and accessing Wallabag.
