Ok peeps, I have a #question regarding #network #switches that I'm not sure about.

I have a #Brocade switch that won't accept my #UPS . I tried using a different UPS with the same result. It only has one power supply installed, and I'm suspecting that's the issue. I don't see anything in the settings either in the CLI or the web interface.

Edit: The switch powers off and the indicator light on the PSU blinks, indicating that it is still getting power but for some reason won't use it.

ARRRGH!

I'm tired of #fighting with this #Brocade switch, and this other one I bought for Top of Rack SFP+ still needs me to build an OS for it, which.. yeah, I don't have a lot of time for at the moment..

Can anyone #recommend an SFP+ #Ethernet #Switch with 10 SFP+ ports or more that won't break the bank?

Running a second 48 port PoE switch just for the additional SFP+ ports on it is, shall we say, a bit of a waste.

Amongst my various connections here (and their connections, and their connections, and so on, and so on...) is there a #Brocade #deity somewhere in the house who could help me figure out why I can't seem to get this VDX6720 switch to pass any traffic?
If this were Cisco, Dell, Netgear, or Aruba/HPE it'd be working by now.. but apparently Brocade, like Juniper, has to do things differently enough that it confuses laypersons such as myself.

Yesterday the used VDX6720 arrived.
Today I managed to break into it and factory reset it...
...only to find out that the SFP+ modules I've already got aren't compatible with it. It throws a hissy fit then disables the port when one is plugged in.
Not cool, Brocade. Not cool at all.
Of course, the switch is also running an ANCIENT (by switch standards, anwyay) NOS v3.0.0.. so now I need to find 3.0.1, 4.0.1, and 4.1.3d in order to get the switch up to the latest OS... but I'm not sure that'll "fix" the SFP+ "compatibility" issue.
I know on Cisco switches there's a command to override that issue, but I've been unable to track anything down that's similar for #Brocade ... so I guess I get to buy new SFP+s for the Brocade side of the fiber connections.
FS.com has some for $20/ea, which isn't horribly priced, really, but it'd be nice to find something a bit less spendy.
Off to eBay I go, I guess.

And there it is... the cable from hell that an IT consultant was able to lend us for configuring a #brocade switch.

It's not possible to use a USB cable directly, since the switch isn't a USB device. Instead, it just wants 2 signal wires and a ground wire for old-school communication using a port that defines things like a Baud rate - if you still remember THAT term from the 80s.

The USB device is the 1st adapter. Shows up as a COM port on the PC you connect this to.

What kind of deal with the devil has caused #brocade to repurpose a mini USB-shaped port for their serial console connection?

A replacement cable is basically unobtainable and the best option according to reddit seems to be soldering one yourself by adding a mini USB plug to an old-school RS232 to RJ45 cable.

I asked #chatgpt to write a rap song about #brocade equipment. Seems about right. Now I just have to find someone that can actually rap :)
