  4. I glanced at Rice Cooker clock while washing up, 20:51 - nearly 9pm? Why do I feel so tired? Took me a moment to realise it’s not on BST (British Summer Time), so it’s actually nearly 10pm. Stupid system, but I felt my tiredness was more justified 🤷 #AbolishDaylightSaving #BritishSummerTime

  8. I need 5 co-signatures for my UK petition before it will be reviewed and published:

"End 'Spring Forward, Fall Back' and stop changing the clocks twice per year"

Edit: It was rejected because it was a duplicate of another petition that was approved after I sent mine in! Here's the current one: petition.parliament.uk/petitio

  16. Remember many years ago an experiment whereby the clocks were not put back in the autumn and were left on British Summertime (BST).
It resulted in the evenings being lighter and the mornings darker.
A couple of the disadvantages that often featured in the news reports at the time were children having to travel to school in the dark and that for people in Scotland, it didn't get light until mid-morning.
Apart from that, I can't recall whether any other conclusions were reached when the experiment ended and we reverted to ending daylight-saving the following autumn.
As a footnote, imagine living in the town of Longyearbyen in the arctic archipelago of Svalbard.
A few weeks ago, this 'land of the midnight sun' was experiencing 24-hour daylight.
Today however, the sun will rise just after 11.30am, then set again just ten minutes later.
After that brief appearance, the sun will stay below the horizon until mid February next year!
