  1. "That mockery of pomp, deflation of status, and saying what’s uncomfortable. It is a comedy directed at the powerful, and I instinctively place that as something I call “British.” ...The pride arises from my imagined common identity with the kind of attitude and behaviour Gervais is engaged in. It is a story about an “us” that I feel is being embodied by him. But the emotion arrives without analysis: a flash of identification with a national characteristic I like. ... I think we can be grateful, positive and proud of what and who we truly are, while not confusing and belittling ourselves with dishonest boasting about our country. ..."

  9. Dear Friends in the the #UK, :agummyhug:

Very pleased about the good news, which as you know does happen. Maybe if only on a personal level:

    1) Did a lot of mantra through the night to the feminine principle (nothing to do with a head mistress)

    2) Watched "The Brothers Grimsby'' which for some reason had very poor reviews. We laffed almost incessantly. #Outrageous spoof Bond movie. Maybe it's #Britishness is not to all (bad/crude) tastes

    3) Very pleased that my concentration is returning. It maybe due to extra #Meditation. Maybe doing some #OpenUniversity courses will help further

    4) Now have quite a selection of computer options, OS options and many leads to a better #Cyberverse. #Hopeful

    5) Was very pleased that antipasti and antifascist are not for aunties or indeed related

Have a great day everyone. Remember your roots are not just for dyeing.

  15. Putting flags up on random lamp-posts is still really fashionable in the #UK at the moment

People doing it say that it's a celebration of being #british and _definitely_ not a poorly concealed attempt to make anyone feel unwelcome.

So, I think I'm going to get into the spirit and order some #flags.

After all, what could be a better celebration of #britishness than putting a #MrBlobby flag up next to every St George's cross that I see?

When the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, we partake in a number of traditions.  You may pop the cork on a champagne bottle, light up some fireworks, kiss your sweetheart, or engage in an age-old chorus of Auld Lang Syne.  Most people don’t know what the title means, but it’s become part of our New Year’s rituals since the
