  1. It was amazing to see Dead of Night at the cinema for the first time tonight in Shinjuku. The extra emotional punch on the big screen was quite something. it's strange though how the characters keep miscounting the number of people in the room!

James's novel is no ordinary horror tale, terrifying readers with what is happening beneath the Governess's written words.

  3. #HappyBirthday to #DamienThomas, the British film and television actor, born in Egypt #OnThisDay in 1942. His screen career spanned six decades, including the opening episode of Hammer's Journey to the Unknown (1968), as the seductive Count Karnstein in the company's rousing Twins of Evil (1971), Kassim in Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977), The Return of Sherlock Holmes (1988) and The Limehouse Golem (2016).

  4. ...a sympathetic blind resident in Amicus' Tales from the Crypt, the psychiatrist in Hammer's Demons of the Mind (both 1972) and the malevolent professor in Fulci's The Black Cat (1981). Mesmerising as the animal trader in "What Big Eyes", Nigel Kneale's tragic lycantropy riff for Beasts (1976).

  5. So sad to hear that #ChristopherGunning has passed. The multi BAFTA / Ivor Novello Award-winning English composer worked for everyone from The Hollies to Dennis Potter, crafting distinctive film / TV scores for #GoodbyeGemini (1970), the BBC's #TheDayOfTheTriffids (1981) and dozens of episodes of LWT's #Poirot (1989-2013). His suitably elegiac score for Hammer's haunting #HandsOfTheRipper (1971) ranks among the company's finest.

  6. Remembering Karlheinz Bohm, a.k.a. #CarlBoehm (1928-2014), the Austrian-German film and stage actor, born in Darmstadt #OnThisDay. He worked for Disney, Fassbinder and George Pal but best remembered as Mark Lewis, the lonely, disturbed would-be filmmaker / murderer in #MichaelPowell's remarkable #PeepingTom (1960).

  7. Lust for a Vampire (1971). Possibly excepting Dracula AD 1972 this must surely be the most reviled of all Hammer’s movies.

Its problem is that it's sleazy and trashy but probably needed more sleaze and more trashiness. But it's still good fun.
