The more data collected together the easier it is to be miss used.

MPs are due to debate the proposed digital ID card "Brit Card" on Monday. Good time to email your MP...

  2. Starmer’s digital ID cards are the last thing Britain needs

The benefits of BritCard accrue not to us, but to the state: a unifying ID which bureaucrats can use to oversee our lives, linking all the parts together. But it is not fulfilling an unmet need. There is no market failure in digital identity services in 2025. The UK’s private sector identity market is thriving. Here’s how it evolved…

  3. @ChrisWere It isn't Labour that's orchestrating #digitalid it's far bigger than one party or one government, it's global, it's orchestrated by the UN, BIS, World Bank Group and Global Public Private Partnerships (central banks + Palantir + multinational tech) in other words the most powerful entities on earth. The #britcard was a PR stunt to gauge public opinion as Palantir said "We just need to improve the back-end of the government systems we already have" - and THAT will be #uk #digitalid

  4. New #blog post: ID Cards Have Come Around Again :(

The #UK government contends that they'll help reduce illegal immigration. In this post I look at why that's unlikely to be true as well as some of the harms that the #BritCard will likely bring with it.

  5. @raymierussell I do sometimes worry that these petitions are ineffective precisely because they mix issues. The question of whether there should be national ID cards is different from the question of teh #BritCard.

Even if having ID cards rather than relying on some mix of passports and driving licences was a good idea, a digital-only version is a terrible idea.

And in practice, blocking #BritCard will block any ID card system. But mixing the issues will put some people off signing.

  6. Thinking more about 'identity' cards and apps has reminded me that I didn't have to provide *any* proof of who I was when I applied for my first passport. I just went to the Post Office and filled out a form.

"My word is my bond" was sufficient back then (1983ish)

  7. I'd like to be open-minded about #digitalid #BritCard since, for example, I admire the cleverness and functionality of the physical Estonian ID card (see Wiki).
For some quick pointers on accessibility, I also like this BSky post by SturdyAlex.
Any new form of ID should work for <<everyone>> British who doesn't already have a passport. And a physical card is safer against poverty or powercuts.

  8. Lol, already going well then...

"It's not a Brit Card....don't believe what the Prime Minister is saying....but also do....look, just shut up!"

Assurances and Pledges are being given, as worthless as NFT monkey pictures....

  9. @AlisonW To all the other nationalities chipping in on how they have ID cards and it's all fine: has your government recently declared a nonviolent organization as terrorists and then arrested hundreds of peaceful demonstrators?

    Anyone? No? Thought not.

  10. @mjr @quixoticgeek @rhritz @sashabilton M J Ray has hit the nail on the head. The UK public do *not* trust our government. We do not trust them because we see their lies, their incompetence, their self-serving, their constant attacks on our freedom. I wouldn't hand them another stick to beat me with.

  11. @GutterPoetry There also seems to be an assumption that you are only a Human being if you are also a #MobilePhoneZombie there are still quite a few people, admittedly tending more to the grey haired that don't walk around permanently attached to a "#Smartphone" if I were to go full Tin foil Hat I'd suspect it is yet another attempt to cull the old & infirm to save on Pensions & NHS IIRC they are currently gradually switching off Landlines that have backup power in the event of the more often occurring power-cuts which like the #IDiocy of Government #IDCard more than probably outsourced to a contributing "Lobbyist", #IDCards will have a non zero #bodycount as old people will not be able to call the emergency services when they need it & in the case of the #BritCard when the Database is inevitably stolen/leaked , if not just sold to raise funds first. It will cause many of those who have had their whole lives stolen to die by a wide variety of causes. Not that I have much hope of it being stopped but I thought I'd get my #IToldYouSo to the world RANT(Rage Against Numpty Twats) in on 26/9/25 so that eventually I can claim full house on my #CassandraComplex😜 but in case it is one of the electronic petitions not hit by the Government auto demagger on inconvenient truths the petition currently at about 3/4 Million is here⤵️ As a #Discworld fan I think we should get it to at least round Million‼️ ‼️
