Grew this Brisbane wattle from seed,its taller than me, basically a fluffy green sphere and starting to get its fist flowers on. I go and pat it and tell it its doing well occasionally.

Stuff thats growing in our 'lawn replacement' area after 2 years; the photo series nobody asked for. (1 of 9)

I haven't seen much about how people realitically go with 'lawn replacement' mid-longer term, let alone in brisbane so...

Note we've had plenty of rain and generally let plants fight it out for dominance. This area never really had lawn. 3 years ago there was a freestanding (trip hazard) deck, concrete tiles, astroturf and and a sickly tree.

I don't know what tomato type this is (I got a mix to see what takes); its a small bush that seems to put on multiple determinate flushes. It crops, all the leaves die, I cut back to a stem, then it grows back. This is part of crop #3. I'm gonna grow some more, its amazing to find a productive non-cherry type.

Replaced my phone and now I can take my silly little photos of my garden again! Without looking like they were taken on my grandparents' floppy disk camera! (I wanted to love the G22, but could not)

(I got a refurbished pixel4a and chucked #lineageOS on it. Nice and snappy. Responsive. So hopefully i can keep it going past the life of the google updates. Maybe. No tap and pay, but I'll trade that for a nice camera)

Did my 5 min post brekkie plant inspection, and now I'm itchy.

But capsicums are producing, though to be fair one of them is producing chillis. Still counts.

These were not the cucumbers I was looking for. Volunteer 'cucumber' in the Dichondra lawn turned out to be spikey cucumbers (kiwano). Who knows where it came from. Partner has never seen them before, so were gonna see if either of us actually likes them....

First capsicum picked, she took a while to get going but more on the way :) plus some other misc solenacae for tonight's burritos.

We get a fruit box delivery, but there's never enough capsicum :)

Volunteer cucumber vine! Weve been trying to do the no-mow grass alternative thing in this little courtyard area. Must have dropped a seed.

Nb: that verdant green isn't normal, we've just been having lots of regular rain for a month or so. Unfortunately means there's a bit too much life in it - so many cane toads.

Nbb: if anyone cares about the groundcovers: Dichondra repens, Blue commelina (native), white clover, some sort of not-clover, Cyperus gracilis.

Redid some veggie garden edge and now I've got these tempting looking holes in the bessa bricks. Considering filling with dirt and planting something in there, but would dry out so quickly. Looking for low, zero maintenance stuff to just look a little neater and maybe insulate from the sun.

I planted buckwheat, sunflowers and clover with the pumpkin vines (qld blue), in the hope of protecting the pumpkins from the full sun and my watering forgetfulness. So far am enjoying the general chaos of the corner. #BrisbaneGardening #VegetableGardening

The lemon myrtle tree appears to have become a creche for these bugs. Looks like baby preying mantis with emu chick stripes!Yay bug predators.

Wondering if rats are stupid enough to fall for my tricks.... 6 months ago in autumn I planted elephant garlic and got nothing. Spring hits and I get a couple of shoots. Then a rat (gormet little so and so) graws one off at ground level. I also have an excess of cayenne chillies growing. I'm hoping to teach rat to not eat the remaining garlic shoots there...

It is _the_ strawberry. Never had much luck in the past, but a freind gave me some runner sprouts and I've been absolutely babying them. Nice shady spot by the fence, buckets of water. One of 3 plants decided to strawb, the others have gone for disgustingly healthy amounts of greenery. Fingers crossed they survive the year. #VeggieGardening #GardeningAu #BrisbaneGardening

How do I know if a birds nest is abandoned? Or what is it?

I was trying to hack back a duranta hedge to manageable height and discovered this #nest . I pruned around it, not wanting to disturb possible occupants, but also hoping that the missing branches makes it a less appealing site.

That was a few months back. I'd ultimately like to finish the pruning job (but that hedge is non native/semi-invasive, scrawny and already awkward on the ladder)

Probably 4m from the ground so I can't see in. Are nests reused? Can I remove it? Or do i just wait a few years till it rots away? I feel like a 90s cartoon developer-villan!

Pretty sure I put my garlic in too early (first time trying), been 4 weeks and I have just 3 sprouts. Dug up a couple of cloves that hadnt done much except look a little softer at the edge, and one that rotted.
