    Have my chestnuts germinated? Something has sent shoots up. Could be bindweed mixed in with woodchips. I also had to cover the pot to stop mice getting in. Unfortunately, I didn't have a clear, mouse proof cover so it was in the dark. Have the chestnuts sent roots up by mistake? Last time the sprouts were quite red. Maybe it has actually worked.     Yesterday I walked into the office via Brincliffe Edge Woods, Sheffield. I was interested to see a wild service tree planted. This was something I had been thinking of planting in my own mini coppice but worried about fireblight. Something has taken out lots of council planted Whitebeams nearby. Anyway, here's a link to the organisation managing the wood where I saw the tree:

    Any Sheffield people use the new path through the flats between Chelsea Road and Brincliffe Hill? Used to be Baldwins Omega. It's marked on the public rights of way map as an Open Byway Sheff/Sch 14/001.
