  1. How do you keep your interest going with #genealogy? Is the spark still alive? Or is the magic gone?

This is something that I've been struggling with. Recently, I had to make a few decisions on where to spend my #time.

I would love to hear from others on their thoughts about gen #research, #brickwalls, and #burnout

I wrote down a few of my thoughts and issues:

  2. @wikitree

#Appalachia is my home and heart.

Join me and two members as we discuss how we are doing #Genealogy for #Appalachians.

We aren't selling anything. We aren't giving away prizes.

    We might share some #Biscuits, #SweetTea, #FamilyHistory, a few #laughs and some #tears over our #Ancestors.

We are a #Community. We love Genealogy.
We tear down #BrickWalls. We #care.

#WikiTree allows us to do that for free so it's available to all.

Spend 45 minutes with us. See our passion.

  3. #genealogy #GeneticGenealogy #NorwegianAncestry #brickwalls #Telemark #VinjeNorwayPlace 🇳🇴🐐 I am working on a new blog post after a hiatus. It has been ten years since a 40 year brick wall tumbled down. And it did so via #DNA On reflection this was such an act of generosity of those fellow researchers with Norwegian ancestry it is remarkable in itself. It may take me a few weeks to pull it all together. Stay tuned. #FamilyHistoryStories

  4. @AllThoseBefore @bjnlsgenealogy @genealogy one of my brick walls fell after 40 years. I got a DNA match w. Someone w. Norwegian ancestry. They said they didn't know how we matched, but they ran an FB group for Norwegian research. Would I like him to post my query there? Sure said I. The mystery was solved within 24 hrs by a woman sitting at a computer a stone's throw from where my 2nd GGM was baptized. I had written to the proper archive however the name as baptized was different from the name she adopted in the US. Baptised Asloûg Elifesdotter but became Elizabeth Olson. #brickwalls #familyhistory #serendipity. Her tree, with the help of perfect strangers more complete than my own back to the 1600's. You never know.

  5. @Chigaze
Haha, I hear you! Luckily, I have some relations who were willing to pay the price for several of those Scottish records. I just have too many interesting New World family members to sort out before I try kicking in those #BrickWalls!

  6. @catzilla @bomkatt Stalling happens. Easy to hit #BrickWalls with common names and/or limited records. I’ve been chugging along on mine for over 30 years now. It’s a puzzle that is never going to be fully solved.

  7. DNA can be a great way to break down a genealogy brick wall. Working with a client's DNA matches, I made some small progress, but being able to triangulate these with his sister's DNA matches has allowed a great leap forward! Tomorrow looks to be a busy day - very exciting!

  8. Brickwall Weise (12/52/2023):
Only one photo found to show Robert Weise (1860-1933) wikitree.com/wiki/Weise-526 Believe him to be No. 1 at photo. I was polishing his profile at #Wikitree this week. One of many #Brickwalls in my #Genealogy are his parents Friedrich August Weise wikitree.com/wiki/Weise-527 and Christiane Juliane Liebscher wikitree.com/wiki/Liebscher-37 The trace goes to the #Oberlausitz. Looking on some discussions ongoing, it seems like you get to there and get stuck.
